5 Onscreen Kisses That Defined Our New Year’s Eve Goals
Ah, the New Year's Eve kiss.
Even though it's not automatically an annual occurrence, it's always present in our minds as an incredibly romantic idea. Starting the new year by smooching someone you really care about? Sign us up!
Of course, we don't have a ton of NYE kiss experience, so we obviously turn to movies and TV shows to dream up our perfect New Year's Eve scenario. If you can't do it yourself, you can at least watch some of your favorite characters ring in the new year with a loving peck.
If you need some NYE inspiration this year, keep scrolling for 5 onscreen kisses that defined our New Year's Eve goals.
Chandler and Monica (Friends)
In Season 5's "The One With All the Resolutions," Chandler and Monica share a sweet and straightforward New Year's Eve kiss. At this point, they're still secretly dating, and Joey is the only one who knows about their relationship. We love that Joey's friendship and actual brainpower is showcased, as he orchestrates a situation where Chandler and Monica can kiss without things being weird. But, more importantly, we love seeing this couple engaging in such sweet activities that are major milestones in any new relationship. Not only are they one of our favorite couples, but they also perfectly showcase the stress, worry and eventual relief that comes along with an NYE kiss when you're in a new relationship.

Dan and Serena (Gossip Girl)
Even though we have to admit that we're not the biggest Dan and Serena fans, this Season 5 NYE smooch definitely gave us the feels. It's right in the middle of one of the most complex storylines—Serena's trying to get Dan back, Dan is falling for Blair and Blair is about to marry Louis, even though Chuck is still in love with her. But what really hits us in this moment is the look on Serena's face as she pulls away from the kiss. You can tell she's struggling with her feelings, trying to force down her emotions and put on a happy face. It's something we've all dealt with, which makes this sweet moment incredibly relatable.

Charlie and Marcie (Happy New Year, Charlie Brown!)
Yes, yes—even one of our favorite cartoons gets in on the NYE kissing action. Unfortunately, Charlie Brown has a bit of a disastrous New Year's Eve. Not only does he fall asleep reading his book, missing the midnight countdown and his chance to dance with the Little Red-Haired Girl, he also gets screamed at by both Peppermint Patty and Sally. However, Marcie's kind kiss on the cheek is the perfect way to wrap up the night. It's a sweet moment, and a nice reminder that everything can go wrong and you can still have an enjoyable New Year's.

Oliver and Emily (A Lot Like Love)
After a chance meeting on a plane, Oliver and Emily spend seven years drifting in and out of each other's lives. In the grand scheme of things, their New Year's Eve kiss takes place in the early stages of their relationship, while Emily is still pining over an ex. As the clock strikes midnight, she ends up standing in front of her ex, who's happily kissing his date. Thankfully, Oliver swoops in and saves her, all the while knowing that he doesn't quite have her heart yet. It's made even sweeter by the fact that the two end up together, but it's still an undeniably passionate moment of connection that gives our heart a few flutters.

Randy and Elise (New Year's Eve)
True to its name, New Year's Eve features quite a few NYE kisses. However, our favorite definitely has to be the sweet peck between Randy and Elise. After getting caught in an elevator together, this pair spends the majority of the film arguing. However, they slowly start to become comfortable with one another, only to have their bonding moment interrupted when the elevator is repaired. Unwilling to let the moment pass, cynical Randy rushes across the city to give Elise a New Year's kiss. It's the ultimate story of discovering love in all the wrong places, topped off with a sweet moment that we'll dream about every New Year's Eve.
