Nina Nesbitt Talks Music And Her Song “Selfies”!

Nina Nesbitt is a 19-year-old singer and songwriter from Scotland who has gained critical acclaim with her new song "Selfies" Earlier this year she also performed at SXSW!Nina Nesbitt Selfies

We recently spoke with the young musician about her musical history and what's next for her.

Nina didn't come from a musical background, but she always loved music and her parents always urged her to pursue her passions.

"Even if I earned no money and lived in a little shed, I would still want to do music," Nina said.

Nina's talents caught the attention of English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran at a radio show in Edinburgh, Scotland, when she was just 16.

"I asked him for a piece of advice for upcoming singer-songwriters, and he said I should learn to play guitar," Nina said. "He let me play a song for him on the spot, and then he invited me on tour!"

Nina Nesbitt received recognition from a wider audience with the song "Stay Out," which lampoons teens who insist they should have been born in the 1960s.

Before long, "Stay Out" became a Top 40 single in the U.K..

"I was really surprised!" she said. "I had gone away for about 8 months to write. When I came back, I put the song out, and the radio picked it up. The fans just spread the word about the song, and I got such amazing support!"

In February of 2014, Nina released her debut album, titled Peroxide in the United Kingdom.

"It's just a very honest musical diary of my life," Nina said. "All the songs are based off my own experiences from growing up, hanging out with friends, and falling in and out of love."

One of the tracks on Peroxide, the lead single "Selfies," has also become a big hit with old and new fans alike.

"I guess it's quite current so fans can relate to it," Nina explained. "It's something a lot of people do – they want to bring attention to them having a great time after a breakup to make it seem like they're not hurting."

The message Nina hopes to get across it that there's nothing wrong with wanting attention to cope with a painful situation.

"The song may help people realize that everyone does it, and its not that shameful to take a selfie!" she said.

Nina's new self-titled EP releases in the U.S. on April 1. "Stay Out" will be the EP's single!

"It's just an intro to my music in the US!" she said.

She's also preparing for a tour, as well as playing festivals throughout the U.K. and the rest of Europe. We absolutely can't wait to see her career develop even further!
