Breaking Down the Drama Between Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and Joshua Bassett
Love triangles are typically reserved for the big screen, but in the case of Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and Joshua Bassett, they're a very real thing.
If you stay up-to-date on all the drama going on in the world of TikTok and Disney, chances are, you know who these three individuals are. So, who's dating who? Is there any bad blood? Keep scrolling for all the deets we have on the drama between Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and Joshua Bassett.
Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett both have roles in Disney +'s High School the Musical: The Musical: The Series, and while never confirmed, there were rumors of the two dating back in 2020. However, Sabrina Carpenter somehow swooped Joshua away, and the two were seen together starting around June 2020. The two of them never confirmed a relationship either, but it's pretty evident they were an item due to social media posts and frequent outings together.
The first time the public saw any sort of drama was with the release of Joshua's song "Anyone Else" back in July of 2020, where he sings of falling in love with someone who isn't available.
Fast forward to January 2021 when Olivia dropped her hit single "Drivers License," and that's when the real drama begins. In the song, she sings of a blonde girl who's older than her (aka Sabrina) and how a guy didn't mean what he wrote in a song about her (seemingly referring to Joshua.)
Whew, the tea is hot! But just wait, it gets even hotter. Following the release of "Drivers License," Joshua came out with the song "Lie Lie Lie" and even drives in a car alone in the music video—just as Olivia did in hers. In his song, the lyrics are all about how someone (potentially Olivia) is a liar and basically needs to get over him.
So, what happened next? Sabrina released a song, of course! Titled "Skin," this track is a clear diss to Olivia, where she basically tells her to get over Josh. Perhaps the most telling line is "Maybe blonde was the only rhyme," which speaks to Olivia's line of "You're probably with that blonde girl."
We know—there's a lot to digest here—but the three singers were nowhere close to being done. In several interviews across the board, the main story the three were trying to get out was that there was no drama. Sabrina said she liked Olivia's music, while Olivia took a different approach and said she barely even knew who Sabrina was. Ouch.
The next song drop was by Olivia titled "Deja Vu," and fans think this too is about Sabrina and Josh. This song is all about how an ex (aka, Josh) does the exact same things with his new girl (aka, Sabrina.) A few weeks after the release, Joshua took to social media and congratulated Olivia on the banger, so it seemed like things were starting to cool down.
Surprise, surprise, the drama was not done. Olivia released yet another song, this time titled "Good 4 U," where she sings of an ex who moved on very quickly (perhaps referring to Josh and Sabrina.)
Plus, with the return of HSMTMTS, where Olivia and Joshua play a couple on-screen, it's been very interesting watching the two play nice. We thought that was the end of the drama, but in a recent interview, Joshua came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community.
People were confused if he was joking because he said it so nonchalantly, but he's since pretty much confirmed it was no joke. So, where does this leave Olivia and Sabrina? Only time will tell, but we sure can't wait to see what happens with the releases of all of the upcoming albums.
