OMEGA X Discuss Their Third Mini-Album, iykyk, and Getting More Involved in Their Music
We've been avid supporters of 11-member K-pop group OMEGA X ever since their 2021 debut, and their latest mini-album, iykyk, just might be their strongest release yet.
This third mini-album dropped in November, consisting of five striking songs including the viral hip-hop infused single "JUNK FOOD" and rocking track "ISLAND," and each and every one was a group effort. The boys have come so far since their debut, working hard to demonstrate their most authentic selves while participating in their musical creation at every level. iykyk was very much a hands-on production, with aspects of the composition, lyric-writing, arrangement and choreography handled by each member of the group. Once we heard it, we simply had to learn more, and we had the pleasure of catching up with OMEGA X to learn what makes this mini-album so special in the interview below.

Sweety High: What does the mini-album name iykyk mean to the group?
Jaehan: I think it's an album that proves that we never stop, no matter the circumstances. It also means that we promise to never let go of our fans' hands in the future.

SH: What do you feel are the overarching themes of the mini-album? What kind of journey do you hope to take listeners on with it?
Hangyeom: If you know, you know! Even if we don't say anything, now you all know, right [laughs]? We tried to give small but definite happiness to the public and our fans in their daily lives.

SH: What was the inspiration behind the lead track "JUNK FOOD" and what does it mean to the group?
Junghoon: I started working on the song because I thought it would be fun to compare it to the public looking for junk food, and I think it's a song that can express our team's aspirations after a long time.
SH: What are all of your favorite kinds of junk food?
Yechan: I like pizza the most! I used to only eat pepperoni pizza, but now I'm trying various toppings.

SH: There was quite a long gap between your last release and this mini-album. How do you feel you've all grown, as artists and as humans, since then?
Kevin: I think I grew in terms of perseverance, to not give up, and a mindset to keep challenging myself. I think all the members have grown to be more mature through facing various things.

SH: What are your favorite songs on iykyk?
Xen: It's "Touch"! It's a song that warms your heart and makes you feel good.
SH: Is there anything else we should know about iykyk?
Sebin: Sadly, this album promotion period was short, but I was happy to see FOR X being happy. I'll work hard to prepare so that we can meet for a longer time next time! I love you, FOR X! <3
