Triple Threat Paris Joy Talks Her Passion for Acting and Short Film, The Final Curtain Call
Australian multihyphenate Paris Joy is a dancer, singer, model and filmmaker, but above all, acting is her biggest passion.
The young star got her start as one of the original cast members of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Matilda the Musical before appearing in a number of short films as well as Nickelodeon and Disney productions. Most recently, she's also turned to creating media of her own, including the powerful short film The Final Curtain Call, which she co-wrote and produced in addition to starring in, addressing an issue extremely close to her heart. We had the pleasure of chatting with Paris about her artistry and the short film in the interview below.
Sweety High: How did you first get involved in show business? Did you always know you wanted to be an entertainer?
Paris Joy: I started dancing when I was just two years old; my dance teacher noticed something special in me—a passion for entertaining. She encouraged me to find an agent, and from that moment on, I was hooked. Whether on stage or screen, entertainment became my love and my life. My passion for the arts deepened as I landed commercials and short films and toured with the Royal Shakespeare Company's Matilda the Musical in Australia and New Zealand. I immersed myself in drama throughout my school years, enjoying every performance. Being an entertainer has always been my dream, which I'll continue to chase with all my heart.

SH: Between being an actor, dancer, singer, and model, is there one role you're most passionate about? Why?
PJ: For me, acting holds the most profound passion. It's the art of storytelling that captivates me. I'm driven by the desire to move people, to take them on emotional journeys and to offer them new perspectives through the characters I portray. The magic of the entertainment industry lies in its ability to transport audiences into a myriad of lives and experiences, and I want to be a part of that magic. If I can make someone laugh, cry, or smile through my acting, then I've achieved my purpose as an artist. I'm most passionate about acting as it's given me a way to connect with the audience.
SH: Can you tell us about your short film, The Final Curtain Call? What was your initial idea, and what work went into bringing it to life?
PJ: The journey of creating, co-writing, producing and starring in my short film musical titled The Final Curtain Call sheds light on the difficult reality of human trafficking. The initial spark for the project stemmed from my unwavering commitment to give voice to the voiceless and to raise awareness about an issue often buried in the shadows of society. Throughout the process, I received invaluable support and guidance from the AAFTA (American Arts Film Television Academy), whose assistance helped bring my vision to life. My goal was to craft a narrative that resonated deeply with audiences and served as a vehicle for delivering a solid message about human trafficking. I worked to present this complex issue in a manner that was both accessible and engaging, using the medium of music to elicit emotional responses and take viewers on a transformative journey.
I chose to anchor the film's characters and events, drawing inspiration from true stories and individuals affected by this pervasive issue. I created a work that entertained and provoked meaningful reflection and dialogue.
The Final Curtain Call represents my heartfelt endeavor to harness the power of storytelling to confront societal injustices and ignite positive change. Through dedication, creativity, and commitment to advocacy, I believe we've composed a film that resonates with audiences on a deep level while shining a much-needed spotlight on the critical issue of human trafficking.
SH: What's one thing you're super proud of right now?
PJ: I'm incredibly proud of my resilience and unwavering commitment to pursuing my dream career in the entertainment industry. Despite the challenges and doubts, I've maintained a positive mindset and pushed through obstacles. My journey serves as inspiration for others, showing that with bravery and perseverance, anything is possible.
