Playa’s Mini Scalp & Strand Reset Kit Is Just What Your Hair Needs

Women always ask me how I do my hair.

Yes, this is a total humblebrag, but it's 100% true. I've been blessed with great locks, but most of that is because I've taken great care of them. I rarely apply heat and stick with just a few top-notch brands I trust, Playa included. I've been using their Everyday Shampoo and Supernatural Conditioner for a few months now and have noticed a great improvement in my hair. So when the team at Playa asked if I'd like to try out their Mini Scalp & Strand Reset Kit, I was in. Below, you'll find my full review!

The Brand

Playa was made with the intention to protect your strands—no styling or drying required. This California-based brand focuses on the West Coast mindset of keeping things low-key and relaxed. With minimalism at its core, Playa was made for those who want an effortless and healthy lifestyle—hair included.

Mini Scalp & Strand Reset Kit: $26

California Salt Shampoo

It's recommended to start out with the California Salt Shampoo, so that's exactly what I did. Upon opening it, I found that it smelled pretty much the exact same as the Everyday Shampoo. It's super fresh with hints of sea salt and perfectly encapsulates California in a little tub.

And while it's called a shampoo, it's definitely more of a scrub. With sea salt and tea tree oil as its two hero ingredients, this scrub is meant to give your scalp the love and care it so desperately deserves. I've never been one to particularly pay attention to my scalp, so I wasn't sure if I was even going to notice a change or feel to mine.

Scrubbing the product into my scalp was weird at first since I've never used a scrub in my hair, but I quickly got used to the sensation. It promises to deeply cleanse and soothe the scalp, and that's exactly what it did. I gave myself a little head massage for 30 seconds before rinsing and was in pure bliss. From the scent to the sensation of the product, I quickly became a convert.

My hair gets oily relatively quickly since I maintain an active lifestyle, and this scrub is meant to balance hair's natural oils. And while I don't have a flaky or even dry scalp, I did feel like it felt more moisturized thanks to the sea salt.

Healing Hair Masque

After testing out the California Salt Shampoo, it was onto the Healing Hair Masque. I was definitely most excited to try the masque out because, at the time, the ends of my hair were feeling particularly dry. It smelled pretty much the same as the scrub and reminded me of the beaches in Southern California.

Before putting the masque in my hair, I played around with the texture in between my fingers. This masque is thick and I quickly noticed the kaolin clay element. Kaolin clay is said to decongest and balance the scalp—so if you're dealing with flaky skin or even patches of hair loss, this ingredient is just what you need.

Another key ingredient found in this masque is amla oil, which targets the root of the hair and treats it all the way down, strengthening it. If you have weak locks or get split ends regularly, this oil will work wonders for you. After making sure my hair was thoroughly wet, I added the masque and it was a waiting game!

You're supposed to leave the masque in for five to eight minutes, but I left it in for more like 15. What can I say? I really wanted to see the effects! And after rinsing it out, my hair was pure silk. It felt luxurious, ultra-soft and was easy to brush through. I couldn't have asked for better results.

Bottom Line

I truly have nothing bad to say about Playa's Scalp & Strand Reset Kit. The products worked great for my hair and are priced fairly. I'll run out of the masque first because I have long hair and definitely plan on getting my hands on more!
