If you have questions after hearing about the Post Malone virtual concert taking place for Pokémon's 25th anniversary, you're definitely not alone.
What does Post Malone have to do with Pokémon and their anniversary, and more importantly, how do we tune in? We combed through all of the info online so you don't have to. Here's everything you have to know.
When and Where
The very first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green were released on Feb. 27, 1996 in Japan, and this special virtual concert will be held on the exact 25th year anniversary of that day on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021. The show begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT at THIS link, or on the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch pages. Even better yet, this is just the launch of a year-long celebration of this special Pokémon anniversary, so we're only getting started.
Why Post Malone?
While Post Malone hasn't really been tied officially with the Pokémon franchise before, he has been a fan his entire life.
The trailer for this special event features a digital version of Post Malone who looks like maybe he could belong in the animated worlds of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Does this mean the concert will have animated elements as well? Will a digital Post perform onstage alongside Pokémon characters? We won't know for sure until the day of.
"It's crazy," he explains in the trailer. "I never would have guessed we would be here today after 25 years. It's you, the fans, that make all this possible. It's been a wild journey so far, but now we're here and it feels so good."
The Rest of the Celebration
This Post Malone concert is only the first of a number of massive virtual concerts Pokémon will hold over the next year. Additional music announcements celebrating this special anniversary are also expected at the end of the concert, so stay tuned!
And in addition to the concert this weekend, there's going to be other exciting gifts for Pokémon fans. First is an adorable singing Pikachu distribution in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, followed by a Kanto region-themed event in Pokémon GO and musical episodes of Pokémon the Series airing on Pokémon TV. This is a great time to be a Pokémon fan.
