What to Know About Pretty Honest Candles’ New Zodiac Candle Collection
As someone who doesn't necessarily believe in astrology, I know a lot about the zodiac.
I've always had a hard time resisting horoscopes and astrological readings, and when things are assigned to different zodiac signs, I'm more than happy to check them out—and give my two cents on whether or not I find them accurate. So, when I discovered that Pretty Honest Candles were releasing a new line of Zodiac Soy Candles, I was eager to investigate. The team was kind enough to send me the candle for my own sign, Sagittarius, and here's what I discovered.
The Candle
Pretty Honest Candles is a Black-owned, women-owned brand that's all about great-smelling, clean-burning soy candles that are hand-poured in Charlotte, North Carolina. Their latest collection is their Zodiac Soy Candles, with an astrology-inspired scent designed to help channel self-discovery and connection to the stars.

These 8 oz. soy wax candles utilize cotton wicks free of lead or zinc, with top notes of wild berries, plum and beach blossom, mid notes of white jasmine, orange flower, lotus petals and violet and a base of amber, sandalwood, vanilla and musk. The candles are available in 12 designs—one for each sign of the zodiac. They retail for $28 each, or you can nab the full set of 12 for $295 (a $41 savings) for year-long burning or gifts for your favorite people of every sign.

The Experience
When my Sagittarius zodiac candle arrived, it came packed in a lovely navy box, complete with gold foil accents and with the Sagittarius constellation under the lid.

The design on the candle itself was even more elegant, taking the archer's signature bow and arrow, accented by images of a sun and crescent moon, to create an eye-catching design. The unlit candle's scent was sweet, clean and delicate, and I couldn't wait to get burning it.

I trimmed the wick to a quarter inch for the cleanest, longest burn before lighting the candle. It didn't take long to discover that the scent had great throw without being overwhelming at all. In fact, the smell was quite light, with gentle notes of florals, pitted fruits and vanilla that felt a bit mystical and spacey—perfect for a candle representing the zodiac.
If you told me that this scent was curated especially for Sagittarius, I'd believe it, because it felt like a great fit, not just for my personality, but for the adventurous, philosophical sign itself. I did find it interesting that, unlike most zodiac candle collections, this one has a singular scent for all 12 of the signs, but strangely enough, I do think it would work well for every last one.
The first time I burned it, I also made sure to keep it lit for at least three hours, so the entire top layer of wax melted and there was zero tunneling. The result was a candle that burned cleanly for more than 45 hours altogether and smelled lovely to the very last flicker of the flame.
