10 Questions I Have After Watching P.S. I Still Love You

It finally happened.

More than a year after the first installment arrived on Netflix, we finally got to watch the much-anticipated To All the Boys sequel, P.S. I Still Love You.

While nothing can compare to the original movie, the sequel didn't disappoint. Sure, it ruined our favorite couple just a little bit, but it also showed a much more accurate depiction of a high school relationship.

That being said, I walked away from this film needing a few more answers. Keep scrolling for 10 questions I have after watching P.S. I Still Love You (Spoilers ahead!).

What happened to Josh Sanderson?

In the first movie, Josh Sanderson was one of the main characters. Lara Jean's forbidden crush on Josh, her sister's ex, was what prompted her to start her fake relationship with Peter Kavinsky. In the second movie, however, we don't see Josh at all. He and Lara Jean mended their friendship and seemed to be on good terms. Where did he go? He's still their next-door neighbor. Shouldn't we see him every now and then? Did he move away? What's going on here?

Was Peter actually with Gen when he was late for his coffee date with Lara Jean?

Unfortunately, P.S. I Still Love You brought up a few issues about our beloved Peter Kavinsky. Instead of the perfect partner of the first movie, the second movie proves to us that Peter is just a normal high school boy. Most notably, we find out that Peter is still spending time with his ex-girlfriend, Gen, while her parents are going through a divorce.

Knowing that Peter was keeping that from Lara Jean for most of the movie, it's hard to imagine that he didn't tell a few more lies. Near the beginning of the movie, Peter makes a date with Lara Jean to grab a coffee after school, then shows up over an hour late with no text or call to warn her. When he arrives, he says his coach kept them after practice. However, his excuse seems a little thin and he looks a little too guilty. Was he actually hanging out with Gen and he didn't want Lara Jean to know? When do the lies stop, Peter?!

Why can't Peter be honest with Lara Jean?

At the end of the last movie, we couldn't help but feel that everything was perfect between dear old Peter and Lara Jean. During this movie, however, Peter just couldn't stop lying! But beyond lying about his relationship with Gen, Peter couldn't be honest with Lara Jean about how he felt about her.

While her relationship with John Ambrose clearly bothered him, Peter continued to act like everything was totally okay. He told Lara Jean that she should write him back and made offhand comments about Lara Jean messing with his head when he found out she and John Ambrose were volunteering together. But he didn't just tell Lara Jean that he was a little uncomfortable with their relationship. Was it because he's a high school boy who can't share his feelings? Was he afraid Lara Jean would reject him? Whatever the reason was, it made their whole relationship a lot more complicated.

Why did John Ambrose's letter take so long to arrive?

Lara Jean's letter to John Ambrose was sent out at the same time as her letter to Peter Kavinsky. So why did John Ambrose's return letter take so long to arrive? Peter and Lara Jean fake-dated for months as they tried to figure out their relationship. That means John Ambrose received her letter months before and didn't bother to reply at all.

Even accounting for snail mail, John Ambrose lived in the same town. If he wrote her back immediately, it would have taken a few days at most for the letter to arrive. Why did he wait so long to write her back? Could he not figure out what to say? Or did he simply not care enough to make it a priority?

Why did Peter lie about Gen posting the video?

I actually understand why Peter was there for Gen during her parent's divorce. It's obvious the girl doesn't have many people to talk to, and Peter was by her side since the time she was a child. However, there's absolutely no reason why Peter should have lied about Gen posting the hot tub video of him and Lara Jean. In the last To All the Boys installment, Peter states again and again that Gen couldn't have posted the video. He even says it again in this movie, despite the fact that Lara Jean is convinced it was her.

Later, we find out that Gen did post the video, and that Peter knew all along. Even if he still cares about Gen, in that moment he chose her over Lara Jean. Gen was the one in the wrong. Lara Jean didn't do anything bad. Peter should have been on his girlfriend's side—no question.

Why did Peter take the locket back?

When Lara Jean and Peter break-up, they go on a field trip to the aquarium. Lara Jean, still wearing Peter's locket, starts playing with it and suddenly asks if he wants it back. While it's kind of a weird reaction, I get it. It was a meaningful gift from him and she doesn't know the proper procedure following a breakup.

What I don't understand, however, is why Peter actually takes it back! He obviously still cares for Lara Jean. Why not tell her to keep the locket and show her that you still wish her well? Is his pride really that important? What's more, what is he going do to with the necklace? He can't return it and he can't give it to anyone else. There's literally no reason for him to take it back. What a stupid decision, Peter.

Is that it for John Ambrose McClaren?

At the end of the movie, Lara Jean kisses John Ambrose and realizes that Peter is the one she wants. She rushes outside to get to him, only to realize that he's already there waiting for her. But is that really it for John Ambrose? He was a central figure in the second movie who had so much in common with Lara Jean. Truthfully, he and Lara Jean shared many more interests than her and Peter. Plus, he made it clear that he was really falling for her.

In the movie, we don't even get to see John Ambrose's reaction. Lara Jean broke his heart and we don't even know how he feels! Will he be returning to fight for Lara Jean in the third film or is that the end of Lara Jean's confusing love triangle?

Will Gen and Lara Jean be friends again?

In P.S. I Still Love You, we see a nice moment where Gen and Lara Jean seem to come together. Gen admits that she's going through a hard time and that Peter is truly crazy about Lara Jean. Lara Jean tells Gen that she couldn't get over her past relationship with Peter, and that her jealousy was entirely her fault. It's not a total reconciliation, but it's a sweet scene.

Does that mean Gen and Lara Jean might be friends in the next movie? I sort of doubt it, but it is a possibility.

Will Peter and Lara Jean stay together?

Of course, one of the most important questions of the film: Are Peter and Lara Jean back together for good? They reconciled at the end of P.S. I Still Love You, but they still have a few things to work through. Peter's constant lies and Lara Jean's flirty relationship with John Ambrose marred the trust in their partnership, which can't be fixed with a snap of their fingers.

We still have an entire third installment of this series. Will Peter and Lara Jean learn how to be in a relationship? Or will they split up again, this time for good? We're hoping it all ends in happily ever after, but we do have to remember this a high school relationship. Unfortunately, those things rarely last, but hopefully Lara Jean and Peter will beat the odds!

Where are all of Peter Kavinksy's 'whoa, whoa, whoas'?

And now, the most important question of the film. In the first movie, Peter Kavinsky had one reaction to literally anything that happened: "whoa, whoa, whoa." He said it when Lara Jean randomly kissed him on the track. He said it when Lara Jean hit him with her car. He said it when Lara Jean was embarrassed at school. It was way overdone and so terribly cute.

So where were all those "whoa, whoa, whoa" in the sequel, huh? Peter Kavinsky didn't say his signature line once. While Noah Centineo might think he's expanding his acting skills, we just think he's a disappointment.
