8 Reasons Being Single Is Definitely the Best Thing Ever

With Valentine's Day rapidly approaching, it's easy to feel upset if you don't have an S.O.

And while you may not think it, being single is actually one of the greatest things ever.

If you're a little skeptical of that statement, all the proof you need is in the eight reasons below:

1. You Have More Time for Your Friends and Family

Being in a relationship makes it difficult for you to find time to hang out with your friends and even family members, mainly because you want to spend your days wrapped up in your S.O.'s arms. While that's all fine and great, it has the potential to cause a strain in your relationship with your besties and closest family members. When you're single, however, you have all the time in the world to spend with those most important to you. So love them, cherish them and go have fun!

2. You Can Date as Many People as You Want

Hear us out, dating can actually be fun. It's your chance to meet a bunch of different people and discover what your "type" is. Plus, it's just a really great way to put yourself out there. And if you aren't too invested in finding "the one," it makes dating a lot less stressful!

3. You're Not Known for Being Someone's S.O.

One of the most frustrating things is when you're introduced as someone's S.O. It's almost as if you don't have an identity outside of your relationship. That's definitely not the case when you're single, though. You're an individual and your own person. You're not just so-and-so's girlfriend or boyfriend. You're you!

4. You Save Money

When you don't have to buy gifts for your S.O. for every major holiday and anniversary, you pocket a little bit of extra cash that you can spend on seeing a movie with your bestie or getting ice cream with your siblings. And having some spare change allows you to treat yo' self, too!

5. You Can Basically Do Whatever You Want, Whenever You Want

You don't have to rely on anyone when you're single. You want to watch a certain Netflix show? Go ahead! You want to check out a new restaurant that just opened? Sure! Heck, you can even eat a whole pizza and a burrito in one sitting while watching tons of sappy rom-coms and no one will stop you. The world is your oyster!

6. You Don't Have to Pretend to Enjoy Something You Dislike

Often times when you're in a relationship, you'll partake in plenty of activities to please your partner. Your S.O. may enjoy exercising or just doing things in nature, while you may be someone who's more apt to stay indoors watching YouTube videos of cats all day. But to prove your devotion, you do things with them that you, quite frankly, hate doing. Not when you're single though! If you don't want to send the day biking on the beach or shopping until you drop, you don't have to.

7. You Don't Experience Relationship Drama

Couple arguments are never fun, either being involved in one or just witnessing one. Not having an S.O. to quarrel with over some sort of petty subject matter makes you a less-stressed person. You can focus on more important aspects of your life, rather than worrying all day about whether or not your boo will still be upset with you when you see them again.

8. You Develop a More Positive Relationship With Yourself

You learn to do things that will make you happy, rather than relying on someone else to elicit those sort of feelings. You become more comfortable being around yourself and just actually being yourself. And that positivity radiates through, allowing others to feel better about themselves by simply being around your uplifting nature. Not to mention, potential partners will find this security in who you are simply irresistible!

We're guessing that since you found your way here, you don't have an S.O. But if you're stressed about not having a boyfriend in high school, HERE's why you totally shouldn't be.
