8 Things You’ll Relate to If You Like Dogs More Than People

Are you a bona fide dog person?

While hanging out with people can be fine and dandy, we often find that we'd much prefer to spend our time with precious pups. After all, they're humankind's best friend, beloved for their reliability, affection and loyalty—and it doesn't hurt that they're also extra cute and fuzzy. If you, too, tend to like dogs more than people, we think you'll relate to the below.

You Find Verbal Communication Overrated

Tired of all the talk? We find that people don't always say what they mean, and even when they're telling the truth, they can utter a whole lot of repetitive nothing without ever actually communicating anything. With dogs, you never have to worry about meaningless chatter. They can't talk, but when they do bark or whine, it's to say something that matters. Even when they're completely silent, they're good at letting you know precisely what they're thinking or feeling with their body language, so you never have to guess.

You Appreciate an Emotionally Sensitive Listener

We often find that when we're experiencing strong emotions, it can be hard to vent to someone and talk about the situation without getting a lot of unwanted and unsolicited advice. Dogs, though, seem to be able to intuitively tell when we're feeling sad or under the weather, knowing just when to swoop in to help us feel better. They're never too busy or bored to listen to our troubles, making them basically a therapist. Plus, they're always happy to snuggle and help us melt some of the angst away.

You Can't Stand People Who Are Hot and Cold

People can be so confusing. Certain friends might act like you're their best friend in the world one day, and be completely distant the next. Dogs are the complete opposite—basically the textbook definition of unconditional love. The dogs in our lives are never not happy to see us, greeting us with tails wagging and jumping up to say hi. It's like we're reuniting after years apart, even if we just went into the other room for a few minutes. We wish our other loved ones could be just as pleased to simply share our company.

You Hope There's a Dog to Hang Out With at Every Party

Every introvert looks for three things at a party—people they know, a snack table to hang around as they graze and a dog to pet.  When you have a hard time meeting new people or socializing in an unfamiliar environment, a dog gives you someone to hang out with. Not only can they make you feel less lonely or awkward, but chances are any party pooch will also draw in like-minded people and make it easier to bond over a shared interest with a new friend.

Your Social Media Feeds Are Mostly Animals

While many people primarily use social media to keep up with their favorite celebrities or see what's going on with their friends, dog lovers' feeds are at least 50% full of animal pages. Rather than seeing who's dating who or what feuds are going on in the world, you'd prefer to bask in the warm fuzzies of cute pet pics and hilarious videos. They always put a smile on your face and leave you happier than when you logged on, and though you mostly follow dog accounts, some more unusual animals are also frequent visitors to your page.

You Can't Stand Drama

When you're dealing with people, whether on social media or in real life, it can feel impossible to avoid all kinds of annoying drama. It's exhausting when certain people make everything about them, blowing up a minor situation into something more simply because they love the attention. While we will admit we've seen a dog or two scream bloody murder over a simple nail trim, we fully believe that reaction is the real deal. In fact, it's usually the case that what you see is what you get with any dog. They're just authentically themselves, with zero ego, and when they have confidence, you can believe it's fully earned.

You've Realized a Sweet Face Is Your Greatest Weakness

If you're like us, you have a very hard time resisting the charms of a cute dog. You can probably tell people "no" all day and feel zero guilt, but the second a pooch flashes those puppy dog eyes at you, it's game over and you give in to their demands. Whether they're seeking a walk, want to be served dinner early or simply need you to drop what you're doing for a petting session, you just can't deny them.

You Prefer to Live in the Moment

When we're stressed or anxious, we really wish we could be more mindful and present, like a dog. They don't ruminate on the past or worry about the future, always living in the current moment. Perhaps this is why they forgive so quickly, and love so fully. If only we could get as much pleasure as dogs do out of sniffing the ground and soaking up their experience! But we try as hard as we can.
