This New Superfood-Packed Powder Gave Me the Unexpected Cleanse I Needed
When it comes to trying new, plant-based anything, I'm your go-to gal.
While I'm not vegan (or even vegetarian, for that matter), if I have a plant-based option in front of me (with the exception of soy, because I think it's gross), I will pretty much never turn it down.
So, when I received a press release for the launch of Hush & Hush's PlantYourDay protein powder, it seemed like a no-brainer in terms of a review. One look at its contents and I was beyond intrigued. I reached out to the brand's rep, who sent me a container of "decadent chocolate vanilla flavor." I was prepared to excite my tastebuds—little did I know what else was in store.
The Product
When I say this powder is jam-packed with plants, vitamins and proteins, I'm not kidding. The ingredients list is overwhelming, including everything from pea and pumpkin protein to goji berry and açaí extract. Those are just a few of approximately 20 all-natural components of this powerful blend.
Each container contains 12 servings. Each serving is a suggested two scoops, and each container is $60. If you opt for monthly delivery, this brings you down to $48 per container.
With only 5g carbs, 1g sugar and 17g protein per serving, the powder is recommended as either a morning protein shake, post-workout refuel or on-the-go meal replacement.
The Experience
While I would've loved to whip this up in the blender off the bat (it's recommended to mix one serving of powder with ¾ cup of chilled almond milk or water; mix it into your smoothie or coffee; or bake with it), I knew that it'd be much easier and quicker for me to plop a serving into my morning coffee when I got to work. I didn't think much about it, other than that it would certainly spice up my otherwise mundane gas station coffee, and give me a little extra energy for the day. I stirred up my concoction, and as I predicted, it tasted delightful as it could with my $1.39 cup o' joe. I wasn't prepared for what happened next.
Let me preface by saying that, up until about two weeks ago, I'd maintained a relatively healthy lifestyle. I'd have an indulgent meal here and there, but for the most part, I try to consume meals as healthy as possible, combined with lots and lots of H20. But the last two weeks have taken a bit of a turn. This is by no means permanent—it's just been a lot of summer BBQs and other festivities that have thrown my digestive tract off a bit.
About two hours after consuming my first PlantYourDay serving, I could feel my body rejecting all the garbage I'd been ingesting as of late. Bathroom trips the rest of the day were frequent. Yet, I didn't feel gross at all. It was great feeling toxins come out of my system. Crazy enough, without any additional powder, the effects of the formula continued for the next two days. I had back-to-back birthdays to attend, and every time I ate something that my body deemed "toxic," I would immediately have to flush it out. Crazy, right? I actually loved the effects and started telling my friends openly. It's just natural bodily functions, right?

After the first jaw-dropping effects of the formula, I decided to lessen my intake moving forward. When I do add the mix to my coffee, I'll do one scoop instead of two. I haven't had the extreme effects since that first go. I'm not sure if that's because of the larger amount I first consumed, or if the formula simply shocked my system that first time. Either way, the chocolatey flavor is a nice addition to my coffee.
I do look forward to taking the powder home with me this weekend, though, because, when added to coffee or another liquid without blenderizing, the powder gets clumped together at the bottom of the cup, and requires constant stirring.

Bottom Line
If you feel low on energy or bogged down by your consumption of crappy foods, this powder may be just the pick-me-up you need. It contains only health-boosting ingredients, so it can't do any harm. Plus, it tastes good, so if you need to get your nutrients in a tasty form, here you go!
I recommend trying it on a weekend when you're just lounging around, in case you have the same bathroom frequency experience as I did. If, indeed, that happens to you, don't be alarmed, as you'll feel good eliminating toxins from your system. To be safe, I suggest using a little less than the suggested serving amount on your first go. Everyone's body reacts differently, so you never know how yours will feel. It's also important to note that this is not an appetite suppressant or weight-loss formula.
Since you'll likely be using this on a weekend, I would opt for using a blender. Make yourself a scrumptious smoothie to start your day. You won't even realize how many nutrients you're ingesting because you'll be tricked by the decadent taste.
