Everything You Wanted to Know About ‘Irish Eyes’ Singer-Songwriter Rose Betts

We first fell in love with the folksy sound and powerful, lilting vocals of English singer-songwriter Rose Betts thanks to her viral track "Irish Eyes," and with each subsequent release, we've become even more infatuated with her music.

Her latest single, "War," is a delicate yet triumphant ode to recognizing unrequited love and learning to let go of it before it becomes destructive, and her other hits, including the painfully relatable "Driving Myself Home" and gorgeous Tim Buckley cover "Song to the Siren" have been equally irresistible. Her talents have helped her find her loyal audience on TikTok and Instagram, and she's even attracted the attention of director Zach Snyder,  performing and producing The Flash's theme song for Zack Snyder's Justice League, as well as being featured on the soundtrack for Rebel Moon. Rose is a star with some very big things on the way, and if you adore her music as much as we do, simply keep scrolling to discover everything we learned about her as our latest Woman Crush Wednesday.

Name: Rose Alexandra Betts

Hometown: Chipperfield, England

Birthday: October 17

Zodiac sign: Libra

Fun Facts:

1. Rose couldn't live without her Voice Memo app.

"I had a dream where I could hear a song super clearly, and somehow I managed to wake up and croak it into my phone. In the morning, I'd completely forgotten the melody, but there it was in my voice memo, and the song ended up on my album. All of the songs on my next album have had their first life in rough form in voice memos… It's the first place I can put them down and live with them. I also use it to sneakily record my family when we play Scattergories. The chaos is hilarious and it's so nice just to listen to them chatting and arguing when I feel far from them all."

2. She thinks she'd be terrible at any job requiring long-distance driving.

"I get sleepy almost immediately. Two hours in, I'm chewing gum, I've got the windows down, the Helm's Deep theme from The Lord of the Rings soundtrack blaring, I've eaten all the chocolate I brought and I'm slapping my face. It's bad."

3. When she was learning to drive, she wore the same shoes to every lesson, and made sure to also wear them for her test (which she passed).

"I think the pass was unrelated to my footwear, more my shameless sucking up to the examiner, but it was comforting. That's the closest I've come to being superstitious. I feel like people and acts of kindness are good luck charms. Kindness always finds you again, and if you have good people around you, then you'll always be lucky."

4. Her biggest character quirk is that she makes most of the clothes she wears.

5. The No. 1 thing on her bucket list is to see blue whales.

"Ideally breaching right over my head like something out of Free Willy."

6. She has a twin.

"I'm the oldest, except that I'm a twin, so it's a bit of a grey area. I was born first, and I feel like I suit that title; I think my twin would agree. It definitely impacted my personality. I can be a bit domineering and a bit of a 'leader' (not always a good thing). But I'm good at making decisions and hopefully at bringing people together."

7. She considers Harry Potter to be her favorite superhero.

8. You might not expect it, but she's a massive fan of Frederic Chopin.

"I taught myself piano until I was 14, and then my teacher gave me some classical pieces and Chopin was the doorway into finding my proper voice as a musician. I think as artists, we often need hands to guide us to ourselves, and sometimes those hands don't come from the places we'd expect."

9. People often come to her for different types of help.

"Sometimes, it's my sister FaceTiming me after a charity (thrift) shop haul to debate what item was the best deal or what to wear to a party. My musician friends often ask how to cope with social media. That's one I get a fair bit. How to keep going as an artist when you aren't receiving a lot of support from the industry or getting traction on Spotify, etc. I've spent so many years grafting without any of that stuff—management, publishing or recording deals—the old <1000. I feel like I can share what got me through all that and still gets me through the ups and downs, and hopefully, it helps. Just gotta keep going and growing."

10. Recently, she's been obsessed with The Great Pottery Throw Down.

"Love it. Was so inspired I took a pottery class last week. It's so much harder than it looks and I'm totally crap. They only put out one episode a week, so I'm basically living in the dark ages, twitching in a corner waiting for the next episode."

11. Rose's happiness revolves around the simple pleasures in her life.

"At my core, all I really live for is food, wine, green fields, people I love and that blissful feeling when I've written something that suddenly doesn't belong to just me anymore. I feel like anyone who listens to my music takes as much of me as they want from it. I used to hide inside my songs. Haven't done that in a while. Now I'm all there, filling up the air, in fragments."
