Rowan Drake Confronts His Own Selfishness After a Breakup in ‘Part of You’

If you've ever come out of a breakup hoping the other person never truly gets over you, Rowan Drake's new single "Part of You" is going to resonate in a big way.

The new track comes across as an honest admission of selfishness and envy as Rowan images his love moving on and being happy with someone else, brought to life with his one-of-a-kind vocals, with the song's rock edge contrasted by his shimmery falsetto. If you've ever felt the same way, you're far from alone, and we got the chance to chat with Rowan all about the song and the situation that inspired it in the interview below.

The Story Behind 'Part of You'

Rowan Drake: "Part of You" is inspired by conflicting emotions that have arisen since leaving my last relationship. In those emotions was a lot of anger and loss that led to the song.

What 'Part of You' Means

RW: "Part of You" speaks to the moments when insecurity leads one's mind to wander to the thought of the person you love moving on and finding new life and devotion with someone else. As these thoughts fester, they can lead to a hope that you will always reside somewhere in the back of that person's mind, not fully allowing them to move on from you. It's a song from a very selfish point of view, and although I've felt this way intensely for short periods of time, it always subsides, and the love for that person ends up overshadowing my insecurities.

Rowan's Favorite Lyric

RW: "I hope you think of me when you make love to somebody new." The whole song lives in this twisted jealous world, and this is the most twisted line, so in context to the song, this would have to be my favorite line.

Final Thoughts

RW: I hope this song can be a safe place, for anyone who listens, to live in if they ever find themselves in this headspace.
