ROZES Told Us Everything About Her More ‘Vulnerable’ and ‘Organic’ Crazy EP

We've been keeping an eye on ROZES ever since she first burst onto the scene as the featured artist on The Chainsmokers' "Roses," and we think she's gotten even more talented with every subsequent release.

Her latest five-track EP, Crazyis out today, and we believe it's her best batch of tracks yet, revealing a fresh side of the artist we've only seen flashes of in her past work.

We had the pleasure of catching up with ROZES to talk all about Crazy, including the meaning behind the title track, what she hopes to get across with these songs, and what it's been like writing music in the middle of a pandemic. Find out what she revealed below.

SH: What was the songwriting process behind the tracks on Crazy?

ROZES: I remember carrying the concept of this song around for a while. I had "So say I'm crazy now" typed into the notepad of my phone and was waiting for the day that I felt in the headspace to write it. When I sat down with my co-writers, they immediately understood the message I was trying to convey, which is all you can ask for as an artist. We talked through the irrational relationships we've had and how we'd rather feel "crazy" than nothing at all.

SH: Would you say there's a theme or through-line for the songs on the EP?

ROZES: I would say the general theme is honesty. I wanted to show every part of my brain and how back and forth my emotions can be.

SH: Do you have a favorite song on the EP?

ROZES: It's hard to pick my favorite song! I think I would have to choose "Halfway There." To this day, it still makes me emotional and seems to be relevant no matter where I am in life.

SH: What would you say makes these tracks different from what you've done in the past?

ROZES: I feel like the things I'm writing have become more raw and vulnerable. Most of my songs in the past were centered in an electronic dance vibe, whereas this EP is centered around organic instruments.

SH: Has it been a challenge to continue making music during these unsure times?

ROZES: I've weirdly been more inspired than ever. While it's weird working virtually, it's been pleasantly surprising, and I find I'm being more vulnerable with my writing because I'm also in the comfort of my own home.

SH: Have there been any artists in particular that have gotten you through tough moments recently?

ROZES: I've been listening to the new Taylor Swift album. I love how she naturally blurs genre lines. I've been really getting lost in her new album. I always find it hard to be inspired by music since being in the industry, but I'm always intrigued by her artistry.

SH: What do you think sets you apart from the other musical artists out there today?

ROZES: I'm not sure it sets me apart, but I always vow to be human. I promised myself that as an artist I would show exactly my true self, nothing held back, and I think that's what my listeners love most.
