Ruby Barnhill Cast As Sophie Opposite “Big Friendly Giant”!

DreamWorks Studios announced this week that Ruby Barnhill has been cast as Sophie in the upcoming film The BFG!

The upcoming film, directed by Steven Spielberg, is based on the classic novel by James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory author Roald Dahl. BFG is short for Big Friendly Giant!

The movie will tell the story of a young girl from London, named Sophie, who meets and befriends the BFG and learns about the incredible but dangerous land he comes from. It'll be Ruby Barnhill's first role in a feature film!

"I feel incredibly lucky and I'm so happy," Ruby said in a press release. "Sophie gets to go on this wonderful adventure and I'm so excited that I get to play her."

The film has a screenplay by E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison and will feature Mark Rylance as the BFG. It begins filming early next year and is slated to release across the U.S. on July 1, 2016. We absolutely can't wait!
