A Definitive Ranking of the Saddest YouTube Breakups Ever
There are celebrity breakups, and then there are YouTuber breakups.
When a celeb relationship ends, it sucks. But when your favorite YouTubers announce they're no longer dating, it's the absolute worst. Heck, dealing with their breakup is almost harder than dealing with yours.
You feel so invested, because you got to know them on such a personal level. And then they decide to smash your fragile heart to bits by ending their relationship. So nasty and so rude.
There've been plenty of YouTube breakups over the years, but none scarred us more than the eight below. Keep scrolling for our ranking of the saddest YouTube splits ever!
8. Baby Ariel and Zach Clayton
Musical.ly stars-turned YouTubers Baby Ariel and Zach Clayton sent fans into a frenzy when they announced their relationship. Unfortunately, it was a bit short-lived, which caused quite the tailspin with their followers. Luckily, the pair has remained close friends post-breakup, proving you can totally be tight with your ex.
7. Marcus Butler and Niomi Smart
Marcus Butler and Niomi Smart were one sweet pair. The duo had been together long before Marcus' YouTube career took off, so everyone was convinced they would last—us, included. Sadly, that wasn't the case. When they stopped posting photos with one another or interacting on social media, fans knew something was up. In a heartfelt video, Marcus addressed the situation and let the world know he and Niomi stopped seeing each other. Since their split a few years back, the two have started seeing other people, and they both seem happy in their current relationships.
6. Jaclyn and John Hill
Jaclyn Hill quickly became one of our favorite beauty gurus the second she started posting YouTube videos. Her bright and bubbly personality—not to mention, stellar makeup skills—captured our attention like no other. With how personal she was, we felt as though we truly were a part of her life. So when she announced that she was divorcing her husband John of nine years, our hearts sank. They were meant for each other, or so we wanted to believe. The breakup wasn't entirely amicable either, which made the whole situation even worse. But we really do hope nothing but the best for these two.
5. Anthony Padilla and Kalel Cullen
For all of you OG YouTuber fans out there, no breakup stings quite like that of Smosh's Anthony Padilla and Kalel Cullen. Their relationship almost seemed too good to be true, almost. Way back in 2014, the pair announced their split, blaming the couple's end on the fact that they'd simply grown apart. They swore they'd stay friends, but that was not the case. There was plenty of post-breakup drama over the following years, proving not every relationships is as perfect as it seems.
4. Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith
Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith were the creators of the highly successful (and hilarious) YouTube channel PrankVsPrank, where they'd essentially prank each other to no end. It was everything. They were everything. The couple was together for 10 years when they decided to call it quits, because things got tough. They were quick to call their split a break, but Jesse and Jeana haven't rekindled their romance since posting their relationship update video about two years ago. At least they're still pretty cordial with one another and see each other from time to time. Maybe one day they'll get back together, but who knows?
3. Shane Dawson and Lisa Schwartz
Though Shane Dawson and Lisa Schwartz announced their breakup almost three years ago, we can still remember their harrowing notification videos like it was yesterday. They were the one couple we thought would be together forever, but that wasn't the case. To say it was rough watching both of them deal with the aftermath of it all would be a complete understatement. But thankfully, the pair are still really, really close and have continued to care for one another in the purest ways imaginable. They even collaborate on videos still, which always warms our cold hearts.
2. Colleen Ballinger and Joshua Evans
Colleen Ballinger and Joshua Evans' relationship was like a fairytale. We watched them fall in love, get engaged and eventually get married at the YouTube wedding of the century. Then, they each posted their own videos announcing they were getting a divorce. Being so emotionally invested in this pair made it incredibly upsetting to hear this news.
The two split almost two years ago, so they've both moved on and are in better places in their lives. Colleen recently announced her relationship with her Haters Back Off co-star Erik Stocklin. And Josh shared the news that he's engaged to his current girlfriend, Pamela Rose Rodriguez. Guess everything happens for a reason!
1. Liza Koshy and David Dobrik

We loved these two individually, but they stole our hearts entirely as quite possibly the cutest YouTube couple of all time. They made us believe in love… then they surprised us all with a heartbreaking breakup announcement. While their video was tragically tear-inducing, in true Liza and David fashion, they had us cracking up in-between bawling our eyes out. Though they may be over for now, we have a feeling they'll find their way back to one another.
