Salt & Straw’s Halloween Ice Cream Sounds Gross But Should Be Delicious, Right?
There aren't many ingredients that can put us off ice cream, but one brand is seriously testing our will to eat the delicious dessert.
The ice cream company Salt & Straw has announced its October Spooktacular Series, and this year's festive Halloween flavors sound unusual, to say the least. Some of the ingredients used include real blood and insects. Yet somehow, they're still actually supposed to be really good.
Even though two of the flavors scare us, they're very festive, that's for sure. The October Spooktacular Series includes Dracula's Blood Pudding, The Great Candytopia, Essence of Ghost, Mummy's Pumpkin Spiced Potion and Creepy Crawly Critters.
As you can probably guess, it's Dracula's Blood Pudding that contains bodily fluid. It is pig's blood that comes courtesy of a butcher in Portland, Oregon. Meanwhile, Creepy Crawly Critters is the variety with bugs mixed in, and they're chocolate-covered crickets and coconut toffee-brittle mealworms.
The flavors must not actually taste bad, though. Both Dracula's Blood Pudding and Creepy Crawly Critters are returning to the menu this October, as Bustle pointed out. Still, if you don't want to get too adventurous, we don't blame you. The other Spooktacular options might be more your style, and that's perfectly acceptable.
Starting Friday, Oct. 5, you can purchase any of the Halloween ice cream via Salt & Straw's website or in one of their 15 locations. Scoops are available in-store only.
