8 “It-Girl” Fashion Trends to Go Back-to-School In Style!
Ah, back-to-school!
Sure, we love the summer, but shopping for new clothes—and new school supplies—are two of our favorite things. Even though it's still August, we've been scouting out the coolest fall fashion trends so you can head into the new year with a little extra swagger.
1. Not Your Average Denim Jacket
Sure we love a denim jacket, but fall is all about finding new ways to wear the trend. Try a longer, short-sleeve version, or even a kimono style!
2. Hoodies
All hail the fashion gods! Hoodies somehow made their way onto top runways this year, so comfort is going to rule the season–and we're not complaining! But instead of wearing your school sweatshirt, try something a little more stylish, like a cozy Calvin Klein.
3. Statement Chokers
We've been talking a lot about chokers here at Sweety High lately, and for good reason. The trend is still going strong straight into fall. However, instead of summer's skinny choker, try a thicker collar-style version, like this one.
4. Bell Sleeves
Get ready to be inspired by the Medieval times, because the bell sleeve is back. Think Game of Thrones. Now you don't want to look like you're going to school in costume, so incorporate the look with pretty bell sleeves on dresses, rompers and floaty tops. Extra points if you find something with lace-front details to drive home the Renaissance reference.

5. School Girl Jumpers
Why is the school girl jumper so much fun to wear when you don't have to wear it as a uniform? The school girl look is in for fall, and there are so many ways to channel this style. If you have an old skirt or jumper, it's time to bust it out! If not, you can emulate the look with plaid dresses and a button-down layered underneath. And perhaps, a pair of thick glasses. Cute, right?
6. Bowie Boots
In case you somehow missed it, the legendary music artist David Bowie passed away earlier this year. Naturally, designers including Marc Jacobs paid homage to the late artist by channeling his distinctive footwear. We'll admit, they aren't the most practical, so try wearing a pair of thick-soled Dr. Martens or Creepers.
7. Bright Bags
More is more when it comes to accessories, so start showing off your wild side, especially for handbags! Whether you go for an unexpected color, cool jewels or a funky strap, make sure it goes with the colors you typically wear.
8. Velvet
Velvet is the fabric of choice for this fall and winter. It instantly adds luxe to your look, and can be worn casually by way of a velvet sneaker or even a blazer. Then, when the holiday season rolls around, try a velvet dress!
