Here’s How to Get a New Back-to-School Wardrobe Without Spending a Dime

It's about time to head back to school, and that means one thing: It's time to give your wardrobe and your closet a complete makeover.

Sure, you could cruise to the mall and spend way too much money on brand new clothes, or you could take an alternate route and revamp your entire wardrobe without actually spending a dime. We'll take the latter, please! ????

Scroll below to see how you'll be rocking a whole new back-to-school look in four easy steps.

1. Eliminate

I'm fairly certain almost every girl is guilty one time or another of walking into her closet full of clothing and declaring "I have absolutely nothing to wear!" Technically, you have plenty to wear, you just don't want to wear it because it's either old, out of style or doesn't fit you anymore. The first—and probably most crucial—step in giving your wardrobe new life, is saying buh-bye to those items you never wear. Go through each piece of clothing individually, and if you haven't worn it in the past six months, it's time to bid it adieu. Once those items are gone, it will be so much easier to have a clear view of the pieces you do wear and love!

2. Sell

Now that you have a mound of clothing you're willing to give up, the real fun begins. Take those items to a local fashion resale retailer like Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads and turn those pieces in for cash or trade credit. If you still can't let go of your need to hit the mall and splurge, you should opt for the cash out option. You can take the money from your used items and then hit up your fave stores. It's practically free clothing. What could be better?

3. Trade

Although cashing out your traded items is a great option, trading for store credit is even better. Typically with fashion resale stores, you get more money if you take the store credit—for you, that means more spending money and more clothing to add to your wardrobe. You'll be amazed when you see how many great on-trend items you can get for a fraction of the cost.

4. Mix

Now is where the wardrobe makeover comes into play. Take your new items and see how each piece can add to a pre-exisisting outfit you have in your closet. That new flannel shirt you purchased could be perfect over the white crop top you already have, or those new denim shorts might match perfectly with your old Converse. Your wardrobe, although not completely brand new, is given new life when you add in a few new staples. Without the clutter of items you don't wear anymore, you feel like you have so many more options. Mix-and-match these pieces until next summer, and then start over again!
