After accepting her award for Pop/Rock Female Artist of the Year, the singer delivered a powerful speech on being honest with yourself about how you're feeling.
Often, we all put on a happy face as we go through life trying to please those around us. We favor other's opinions of ourselves over our own. And even when we're shattered inside, we ignore those feelings in favor of a joyful facade.
Selena revealed she had been down this path before.
"I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down," she told the audience. "But I kept it too much together to where I let myself down."
But she has since moved forward and is no longer concerned with satisfying the masses.
"I'm not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore," she proclaimed. "All I can say from the bottom of my heart is that I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love."
The most poignant part of her speech was when she emphasized that anyone who is going through this struggle can rebuild themselves.
"If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken," she affirmed.
Her speech is certainly something we all need to take to heart. What you think about yourself is far more important than how the rest of the world perceives you. And if you're feeling down, take the time to fix yourself.
Relive Selena's emotional speech, or watch it again if you witnessed this touching moment from the show.
