6 Ways Selena Gomez Blossomed While Dating The Weeknd
Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have broken up.
As much as we totally loved the pair's adorable PDA moments and constant praise in the media, we can at least say we really saw the "Wolves" singer mature and come into her own from this relationship.
Here are six ways Selena blossomed while she dated The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye).
1. He Got Her to Smile Again
Based on Selena's video for "The Heart Wants What It Wants," we know how hard her split was from Justin Bieber. But, in the midst of her sadness came someone who brought light and happiness back to her life. There were countless photos of Selena and The Weeknd being very affectionate in public with adorable smiles. Selena looked happy again.
2. She Stopped Putting All Her Eggs in One Basket
When The Weekend came into Selena's life, she proved she wouldn't be influenced by him alone. She spent significant time with her friends and family, unlike when she dated her ex and seemingly made her entire life about him.
3. She Learned How to Say 'No'
Feeling supported and loved can make you feel stronger than ever. Selena has been open about how she feels when she says, "no." She hasn't always been able to do it, but this past year she became more empowered and found her voice. She learned it's okay to think of yourself first and say no to situations and business agreements that don't feel right.
4. She Found Her Inner Strength
Selena shocked the world when she posted a photo on Instagram about receiving a kidney transplant due to her Lupus. Keeping that from the world when you're predominantly in the public eye isn't easy. The Weeknd reportedly planned his "Starboy: Legend of the Fall" tour around her surgery so he could be there for her as she recovered. We're sure all the love and support helped her find her inner strength to get better and be so open with her fans about what she was going through.
5. She Changed Up Her Sound
This year Selena blessed us with new music and many of her fans have said her new sound seems influenced by The Weeknd. Whether that's true or not, she was certainly inspired to share a unique sound with us and we are living for it!
6. She Became More Open
Selena is very forthcoming about mental health awareness. This year she has been transparent with her fans about her own struggles, and she even took on a project as executive producer of 13 Reasons Why. Her honesty is not only inspiring, but also empowering for her fans to be open and not be afraid to seek help for issues of their own.
