Rising K-R&B Artist SÉON Talks His Musical Background and New Release
by Tayah Fox
K-R&B artist SÉON recently released the second installment of his Renaissance series, Renaissance: Architecture.
This single album consists of three tracks, all composed and written by SÉON himself, showcasing the artist's abundant musical talents. The title track, "Bye Bye, " begins as a slow and sultry R&B ballad before the tempo increases in the chorus, creating a groovy, danceable melody. The song's lyrics highlight an unreachable love and the complicated emotions that result from it. We spoke with SÉON to discuss his career and what led him to the path of music. Read the full interview below.
Sweety High: As a songwriter, what is your approach to the writing process?
SÉON: It seems to vary with each song. For some songs, I start by creating the track (the underlying beat), and in other cases, I determine the theme or words first. For "Bye Bye," the chorus melody came to my mind first. For other songs, I started by choosing the overall mood and concept before I wrote the song.
SH: Where do you find inspiration when creating your music?
SÉON: I get inspired by my daily life. I believe I have a relatively high level of imagination, so I often want to weave everyday themes into music.

SH: Creative blocks occur frequently in artistic careers like music. How do you navigate through a creative block?
SÉON: As for creative blocks, I think that artistic fields may face more of these concerns compared to other professions, but I believe that obstacles appear in any job a person does. I also constantly face these obstacles. The most important thing, no matter what, is to persist, even if it's just a little bit at a time, and continue to try despite being tired and struggling

SH: Which song from your new project are you most excited to showcase and why?
SÉON: Honestly, I don't think I've released a song that perfectly represents me and my genre yet. However, if I had to choose, it would be "Cliché (Feat. Judy Choi)."
SH: You've primarily released R&B songs in the past. Are there any genres you would like to try in the future?
SÉON: While I've created bright and easy-to-listen-to music so far, I plan to make songs that are deeper and more niche in the future. R&B will likely remain the main genre, though.

SH: You've expressed that music comes to you naturally. When did you discover your natural talent for music and what made you want to pursue it as a career?
SÉON: Our family moved around frequently when I was a kid. Every time I went to a new place, I made friends through music. Music is the only thing that I never get tired of, find interesting all the time, and want to come back to even after spending 24 hours with it. That is the reason why I started making music.

SH: Where do you hope to be one year from now?
SÉON: I hope to be an artist who regularly connects with my fans and draws in more people who love my music. I would like to hold concerts for them and I hope we will be able to enjoy music together.
SH: Is there a message that you would like to leave for your fans?
SÉON: You are the reason why I can continue doing music without giving up on it. I will strive to be an artist you can be proud of in the future. I love you.
