Tarte’s New Shape Tape Glow Wand Is a Subtle Yet Satisfying Highlight Tool

When it comes to highlighter, my motto is the more the merrier.

Hands down one of the greatest beauty innovations of our time, I legitimately don't know how we functioned before this product existed—nor do I have a limit on how much I'll willingly apply on any given day. That said, there's always the next best thing, and leave it to Tarte to combine its best-selling Shape Tape with a highlighting formula and create an entirely new item called Shape Tape Glow Wand.

Because I use Shape Tape religiously as my concealer (and you already know how I feel about highlighter), I jumped at the chance to review the Shape Tape Glow Wand when I received the press release from Tarte.

The Product

According to the press release, the Shape Tape Glow Wand is, "a vegan liquid brightener that highlights, boosts radiance and turns back the clock on tired-looking under-eyes."

The release also lists the wand's multiple uses as follows:

  • over Shape Tape concealer
  • alone for no-makeup magic
  • high points of face, collarbones and décolletage to highlight
  • mixed with moisturizer or primer for all-over radiance

The dual-ended item has a doe foot applicator, as well as a removable sponge on the other end for easy application and blending. It comes in eight shade options and is $25 a pop. It's currently only available on the QVC website, but come Jan. will be available at Ulta and Ulta.com and on Tarte's site

The Experience

When I initially received the Shape Tape Glow Wand, I was nervous. Because it's brand new, I couldn't find any how-to videos on YouTube, and the item won't be listed on Tarte's website until Jan. I figured if I'm going to review a product, I should at least give it a fair go with proper application. What if I mess it all up and don't accurately portray what it's supposed to do?

After calming down, I woke up this morning and decided to give it my best attempt. What I came to find is that it's actually incredibly easy! A much lighter consistency than traditional Shape Tape concealer, you can apply the Glow Wand just as you would the former, but be more selective about where to put it (depending on the look you're trying to achieve). Because I was winging it, I decided to take the highlighter route, adding it to the areas of my face in which I'd typically apply my Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter (which has been my go-to liquid highlighter for the last two years).

The end result is what I call a subtle-yet-satisfying glow. It's absolutely perfect for everyday wear when you want a not-so-obvious highlight for school, work, errands, whatever. The lightweight plastic tube is also portable, so no need to schlep around a heavy glass jar or round compact that can easily break. Above all else, my favorite part about this is the cute little applicator sponge that comes attached to the wand. It makes it so easy to get underneath the eye and dab just gently. One of my biggest issues is using large sponges and feeling like I'm not in control of where the makeup goes.

Bottom Line

I give Tarte's Shape Tape Glow Wand two thumbs up. Whether you typically wear a full face of makeup (????‍♀️) or you tend to go the au-natural route, this product serves a purpose for all. There are times when I need a touch-up after a long day, or maybe forgot or didn't have time to give my full face the proper attention it deserves. Keeping this little guy handy will make it easy for me to get a little added glow on the go.

On the flip side, if you're new to wearing makeup or you simply just like keeping things subtle, this product gives you a very natural glow that makes your skin look healthy and hydrated, as opposed to like you're about to walk a red carpet.

And while a less thick consistency than Shape Tape concealer, a little still goes a long way. You'll definitely get the bang for your buck with the $25 price tag.
