Shelby Simmons Talks Teamwork and What We Can Look Forward to in Bunk’d Season 5
Over the previous season of Bunk'd on the Disney Channel, Shelby Simmons' character, camp counselor Ava, has quickly grown to be one of our favorite characters on the show. With the fifth season premiering today, Jan. 15, we absolutely can't wait for her return.
We have some high expectations for the show this time around, but if Shelby's words are anything to go by, we think all of our biggest Bunk'd wishes are about to come true. Keep reading to find out everything Shelby revealed, and what that might mean for the future of Bunk'd.
Sweety High: How excited are you to be back in Bunk'd for another season?
Shelby Simmons: I'm so happy to be back on the show. Very blessed to have the opportunity to do a Season 5! I think this show has helped me learn to let go and have fun in my acting, sharpening my skills for future comedy roles.
SH: Anything you can tease about this season?
SS: Something huge happens for Noah!
SH: In what ways are you most similar to your character, Ava? In what ways are you the most different?
SS: We are pretty similar in that we both love to read, and this season she's trying her best to be the best she can be for her friends. We are very different in how we handle conflict and what we define as good, happy memories.
SH: What role do you typically play in a friend group?
SS: That depends! In a large group, I can end up being the "counselor" of sorts, but in a smaller one, I tend to take the leadership role. I can be very decisive when I need to be!
SH: Have you ever been to a summer camp?
SS: I have not, unfortunately, but I have been hiking in Sequoia National Park and I am a huge fan!
SH: What's the most valuable life lesson you've learned during your time on the show?
SS: One of the greatest lessons I've learned is simply that teamwork makes the dream work. Never forget that we are all working toward the same goal!
SH: How was filming for this season different from the past?
SS: Well, we have the COVID regulations now and there are no hugs, which has been strange for me. I'm a big hugger. But it's also made us really adaptable and forced us to think outside of the box!
SH: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
SS: I'd like to say that I'm proud of us as a people. We've suffered and we have endured!
