If You Work Out Regularly, This On-the-Go Set Will Keep You Smelling Fresh
Wouldn't it be great if perspiration smelled like roses and daisies? Ha! Not happening in this lifetime.
But at the very minimum, it would be nice if there were products that could neutralize the natural odor that accompanies a good sweat sesh.
When a rep for FIELD Botanicals—a cruelty-free, vegan, clean body care brand, owned by Jennifer Tinsley—reached out about reviewing samples, I happily obliged. As someone who works out regularly, I'm always looking for the next best product to throw into my gym bag.
The Products
The set of three items (Smell My PITS, Smell My FEET, Smell My BOD), which is now sold at Urban Outfitters, can be purchased as a trio ($69) or individually.
Smell My PITS: $18.50
Made with arrowroot powder, argan oil, shea butter, ylang ylang, lemon and kaolin, combined with sweat-sucking clay and a low amount of baking soda, this product is made to control sweat and deodorize the armpits.
Smell My FEET: $26
Made with witch hazel, aloe, lemon, tea tree, thyme, peppermint grapefruit and vetiver, this product is made to generously spritz inside any pair of shoes (either to prevent odor or to neutralize it). It can also be sprayed directly onto feet for the same purposes. The combo of witch hazel and aloe moisturize the feet, while containing odor.
Smell My BOD: $28
Made of neroli, aloe, lemon thyme, ylang ylang, palma rosa, geranium, peru balsam and litsea cubeba, this product is made to be strong enough to give you a whiff of fragrance, but light enough not to overwhelm someone standing next to you. Given the nature of the scent, it's suitable to wear during a workout, but also after, when you're drenched in sweat.
The Experience
I immediately fell in love with Smell My PITS. The scent is neutral and the clay is a unique formula I'd never applied to my body in that way before. I've started wearing it throughout the normal day (workout or not) and notice it does its job of minimizing sweat and odor. The only time I find myself sweating massively after application is when I do a hot class of any kind, but those are rare circumstances in which I don't think any sweat-minimizer would stand the test. Even so, I noticed that my armpits didn't smell, despite the amount of perspiration. I was really impressed and will say this is by far my favorite of the batch.
Smell My FEET couldn't have arrived at a better time. I don't wear tennis shoes too frequently, but my one pair of Nikes have become my go-tos when I'm not at the office. And most of the time when I wear them, I'm running out of the house, not really caring about socks. That said, you can probably guess they're no longer in that good-as-new-scented phase. I applied some generous spritzes to the shoes, and just like that, odor neutralized! I will say, the smell didn't go away permanently, but for the time being, it was fine. And it's not that big of a deal if I have to go and spray them again next time I wear them. Also, as I noted, the odor is neutralized, meaning it's not like my shoes suddenly smell like perfume—which is a good thing.
Smell My BOD is the item I could most do without from the set. The smell, although light, isn't entirely to my liking—and the girls in the office agreed. While I am all about those au-naturel aromas, there's something slightly off about this one. But I spritzed it on my body before a workout one day and noticed that, like the other products, it seems to be much more of a neutralizer than an actual perfume. I think a few spritzes post-workout really can't do any harm. But I probably wouldn't make this my go-to scent at the office.
Bottom Line
I've got to say, I first and foremost love how clean and fresh these products smell and feel. It's always refreshing to know you're putting all-natural ingredients onto your skin. That said, these items (even purchased individually) may be a little pricey for the average consumer. But if you're vegan or a big proponent of non-toxic ingredients, then these are worth trying. As noted above, the deodorant is my favorite item, and I would recommend it to anyone. I don't think the body spray is necessary, and for the price, function and ingredients, you can find other products on the market that cost less (and probably smell a little lighter, too).
Overall, I really admire the message of the brand. Female-owned and operated, the company understands that life is hard enough—smelling bad should be the least of our concerns. Additionally, I love the eye-catching packaging and get excited when I see one of these lil' guys pop up in my gym bag.
