Solo Date Ideas for National Singles Day

This Saturday (Sep. 23) is National Singles Day, but that doesn't mean you should mourn not having a partner. If anything, use the holiday as a time to appreciate yourself.

Being kind to yourself looks different for everyone. For some, that may mean taking a day to lounge around in your pajamas. For others, it could mean getting out of their pajamas and leaving the house. If you're struggling to find ways to celebrate being you, here are five easy ways to put yourself first on National Singles Day.

A Day of Self-Pampering

There is nothing we love more than having a fresh manicure and pedicure, salon-styled hair and a freshly waxed body. It's the ultimate self-esteem boost. But beyond that, it's generally a relaxing experience, especially for people who can't do their nails or chic hairstyles at home.

Go to Dinner Alone

If you weren't homeschooled, you probably share a sense of anxiety about having to eat alone. Once upon a time, that was the epitome of social suicide. However, as an adult, it's not feasible to expect someone to eat with you during every meal, but we understand—it's hard to shake that feeling. This National Singles Day, we challenge you to go to a restaurant by yourself. When you finish, you'll feel like you can conquer anything.

See a Movie by Yourself

Much like eating alone, going to the theaters is something we struggle with doing by ourselves. We don't know where it began, but it feels like there's some unspoken rule that you should go to a movie with friends and family. When you think about it, it makes no sense—you don't even get to interact with each other. This weekend, we're going to a movie of our choice, and we're going to sit there and eat our snacks with confidence.

Buy Yourself a New Outfit

Treating yourself can be as simple as buying yourself a new shirt or pair of jeans you've been eyeing. When you're someone with bills to pay, you may fall into the trap of only using your money for necessities. We're here to tell you that it's okay to buy yourself something nice—and National Singles Day is the perfect time to do so.

Whatever Else You Enjoy!

As we said, everyone has a different vision of doing something for themselves. The possibilities are endless. So, if nothing on this list resonates with you, we encourage you to think about your hobbies. You might love video games but haven't had the time to pick up the controller. Or, you might love art but never had the chance to visit a museum. National Singles' Day is about caring for yourself—feel free to get as creative as you want.
