Buying Beverly Hills‘ Sonika Vaid Shares How She Found Herself in the Process of Writing ‘Lost’

One thing we've always adored about American Idol is that its artists don't have to place first to become stars, and singer-songwriter Sonika Vaid is proof of that.

After being a finalist on the 15th season of American Idol, she's still making incredible music, as well as being a passionate and successful real estate agent, as shown on the hit Netflix series Buying Beverly Hills, demonstrating her power in anything she applies herself to. Last month, she released the pulse-pounding pop track "Lost," and we had the pleasure of chatting with Sonika herself all about what the song and its lyrics mean to her.

The Story Behind 'Lost'

Sonika Vaid: It's ironic because this song was written during a time in my life where I was feeling really lost in so many different ways, and the process of creating this song made me feel found. I realize so many people can have so many different opinions, but when you stop listening to all the noise, you realize your opinion is the only one that matters. It made me appreciate the process of life and that it's ok to feel lost because there is always something greater waiting for you. đź’•

What 'Lost' Means

SV: I want my listeners to take away the feeling of being okay in feeling lost. It is all about trusting the journey you are on. The trials and tribulations of my life made me feel like I would never find hope, but writing this song truly gave me hope again. 🥹

Sonika's Favorite Lyric

SV: "When you kiss me slowly I forget what I'm chasing […] Anytime you hold me know I'm yours for the taking." I really love these lines because, for me, I feel the sense of yearning I got inside when thinking about my music career in the past, or when I really loved someone who I knew was never meant to be mine. It invokes the feeling of resolution while also feeling lost, almost in love with the feeling of being lost. Life is such a beautiful journey 🌎
