Soraida Mejia on Being Herself and Her Secrets to TikTok Success

Soraida Mejia, best known as @itsoraida on TikTok, is one of our go-to creators when we need a good laugh.

From her POV videos to lip syncs and hilarious observations about life, she's a master at finding the humor in everyday situations we can all relate to while also highlighting the importance of her Latin heritage. Today, she has more than 2.4 million TikTok followers, so it's clear we're not alone in adoring her.

But that's not all she's been up to. She was also a part of a recent Glamify Me campaign modeling their fabulous false lashes, and is in college studying business while also working at a local restaurant. How does Soraida keep us laughing with all of this going on? We asked her all about her career and the secrets to her success.

Sweety High: What first got you interested in TikTok? What appealed to you about it, and how did you see yourself fitting in there?

Soraida Mejia: What got me to do TikTok? Honestly, it was just for fun. And I'd always cared so much of people's opinions, but when I post, I feel like I can truly be myself.

SH: How long does it take for you to come up with the ideas for your videos, and where do your ideas come from?

SM: Honestly, it depends. Sometimes, I just start recording and whatever comes to mind I just go for it. My ideas are just random. Honestly a year ago, I never would have thought I'd have 2.4 million followers.

SH: What do you think it is about what you do on the platform that has allowed you to thrive as a creator there?

MS: I think what has really helped me is that I am my true self. Nowadays a lot of people are scared of being judged. I'm not gonna lie, I used to be too, but with time, I realized I should be that person that uplifts others.

SH: Have you used any of the knowledge you've gained in school studying business to help build your social media audience?

SM: I've gained a sum of knowledge. It's my first semester, so it was a little
hard focusing on school with social media.

SH: What does it mean to you to be part of Glamify Me's newest campaign?

SM: Honestly, when I heard they wanted me for their campaign, I was excited. It's my first time I've ever done something like that. I felt so lucky and I realized how after all the hard work, it's paying off. Couldn't be happier.

SH: Why is it important for you to be a good role model to the Latinx community?

SM: It's important to me in so many ways. I wanna set that example for those who feel like they can't make it because of where they come from. I know the struggles and I want people to relate to me and realize they can make it. Anything is possible with a positive mindset.

SH: What tips do you have for anyone looking to grow their TikTok community?

SM: One tip I'll give to anyone trying to grow is to really be themselves. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't. No matter how hard it gets, keep pushing. It'll be worth it in the end. And most of all, ignore the haters. They'll always talk, regardless. Don't let anyone change you. Be your true self.
