A Definitive Ranking of the Top Sour Candies

Sour candies may not be for everyone, but we can't get enough of them.

Still, is there such a thing as too sour when it comes to sugary treats? We tasted and ranked some of the top sour candies of all time to find out. Keep scrolling to find out if your tasty fave made the list.

8. Warheads

Warheads are definitely sour. In fact, they're sour to the point that their potent punch feels like a gimmick, rather than something to actually make the candy more enjoyable. In the beginning, that tang is almost painful. Once the initial sharpness wears off, Warheads become a perfectly pleasant hard candy with a sour powder center, but we prefer something we can enjoy from start to finish.

7. Sour Skittles

We'll admit that Sour Skittles are delicious. The reason they rank so low on this list as that they absolutely destroy the insides of our mouths. For whatever reason, the sour sugar crystals on Sour Skittles are jagged and harsh, resulting in raw cheeks and roofs of mouths every single time. If they were to smooth things out, we bet we'd able to actually enjoy them.

6. SweeTarts Extreme Sour

These extra-sour SweeTarts start out a little too sour for our tastes before mellowing out to a flavor that's more tangy and sweet. The flavor is decent and they have a really enjoyable chew. Still, we think there are even tastier sour candies out there.

5. Air Heads Xtremes

Air Heads Xtremes are far from the sourest candy on this list, but we still think they're pretty delicious. They come in fruity, tearable belts, allowing you to break up the individual colors of the rainbow and taste each one's unique flavor. Still, we prefer to try every color at once. They're mostly sweet, with a little punch, and they're way too easy to scarf done.

4. Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers

While these sour gummy worms are well loved, some flavor combinations are more beloved than others. While you'll get the biggest sour kick out of the orange and green worms, very few people prefer a lemon-lime Brite Crawler. The delectable blue and red worm is a favorite, but isn't that sour at all, while the yellow and red worm is a nice compromise in the middle. There's something here for everyone, even if this isn't the end all, be all of sour candies.

3. Sour Punch Straws

Sour Punch Straws perfectly straddle the line between too sour and just right, and we find them tough to resist. Not only do they come in some truly incredible flavors, but unlike pretty much any other sour candy, they come in whole packs of a single flavor, so you don't ever get stuck with the ones you dislike. We dare you to try having just one straw.

2. Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids are totally timeless. They're basically Swedish Fish coated in a super sour sugar coating, starting with a kick before mellowing out into something sweet and endlessly snackable. Though some of the flavors aren't our faves, they make every coveted red piece in the bag that much more special. We'll forgive the slightly rough texture because they're that good.

1. Hi-Chew Sours

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but we don't think anything can beat Hi-Chew Sours. These citrusy Hi-Chews come in lemon, lime and grapefruit flavors, packing an authentic fruit punch that lasts for as long as you can chew. They focus more on pure, delicious flavor rather than on being extra sour, and they're all the better for it.
