Spencer Sutherland Talks His Debut Album In His Mania and Bringing the Music to Life on Tour

It truly is the season of Spencer Sutherland, and we couldn't be happier about it.

Earlier this month, Spencer dropped his highly anticipated debut album In His Mania, with a story unfolding across 11 raw and timeless tracks that relatably capture all of the unbridled energy and euphoria of a state of mania. Spencer's smokey, warm voice is unmistakable, and it's never been better than it is on this album

But the best part is that fans don't have to be content with just listening at home. On March 19, Spencer kicked off a massive 25-date In His Mania tour with a show in San Francisco, and it will wind back up in California for the final show at Belasco Theater in Los Angeles on April 27. We had the pleasure of catching up with Spencer to discuss his bold new music and why he's so excited to be back on the road. Sweety High: What does the album name In His Mania mean to you? Why did that title feel like the perfect summation of this group of songs?

Spencer Sutherland: The title best describes everything going on in my head and my life. All of the emotions and experiences: The Good, Bad and Ugly. I wanted to talk about the things that caused me to act manic in all of these ways.

SH: How would you describe the album's sound? Production-wise, how did you go about bringing these tracks to life?

SS: I think the album has a very classic feel to it. It was important for it to not feel time-stamped in any decade. I used all-real instruments and wrote the songs in a very classic way. Lots of big vocals and vocal stacks.

SH: How do you feel that these songs represent where you all are in life right now?

SS: I'm just brutally honest with this record. I wanted my debut album to be really true to my life and who I am. It tells my story through heartbreak, empowerment, parting and love.

SH: What's your favorite song on the album? Why?

SS: Too hard to pick. They are all my children and I shall raise them to be wonderful adults.

SH: How excited are you to bring the new album on tour? Is there any one track you're most eager to perform in front of your fans live?

SS: Sooo excited! I think "Cry" is going to be insane live. It's like a James-Brown-meets-The-Rolling-Stones type beat, and that is gonna be a party.

SH: What's your favorite thing about touring?

SS: Everything. Everything from meeting all the fans and seeing their smiles in the crowd to stopping at random gas stations and stepping off the bus, not knowing where we are. I love every aspect.

SH: Is there anything special we should be looking out for on this tour?

SS: The biggest show I have ever put on. It's my first show and tour with a stage and lighting design, so that is going to be really special. The show is so massive, too!

SH: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

SS: I would like to add that I am so grateful for anyone who listens and connects to this album. Also, Sweety High rocks and I love you with all my heart!
