Stacey Ryan Makes Her Feelings Known in New Single ‘Over Tonight’

No rising singer-songwriter has been dropping viral hit after hit quite like Stacey Ryan, and we believe her latest single, "Over Tonight," will be no exception.

With its smooth, jazzy R&B feel, "Over Tonight," is a powerful track about beginning to develop feelings for someone when you both intended to stay just friends—and we can absolutely relate. Her songs always manage to get right to the heart of the pains and heartbreaks we all go through from time to time in life, with the jazz influences from her classical training shining through in each element of her captivating performances. "Over Tonight" is primed to be another smash, and we spoke with Stacey herself to find out precisely what the song and its lyrics mean to her.

The Story Behind 'Over Tonight'

Stacey Ryan: "Over Tonight" was more of a story-making song than telling a story that already exists. When we were creating the song, the chord progression and overall vibe led us to write a song about two friends who want to become more but are afraid to make their feelings known, especially after they've been in a "friends with benefits" situation.

What 'Over Tonight' Means

SR: To me, the song is about how important it is to make your feelings known because you never know what could happen if you try! I hope when people listen to the song, they not only follow the storytelling but also listen to all the intricate musical elements and layers to the song.

Stacey's Favorite Lyric

SR: My favorite lyric from the song is in the bridge: "Leave your watch on my nightstand, just so you can come back again." It's a way that the person is telling the other person they want them to stay or to come back soon without explicitly saying that.
