The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Staying Fit All Year Long

We're smack dab in the middle of January, which means you might still be hard at work on your New Year's resolution(s).

While we can't predict just what you want to do differently in 2019, there's a chance it involves working out more and/or eating healthier. And, hey, we know better than anyone that after the freshness of the new year fades, it's easy to, unfortunately, slip back into old habits.

That's why, after taking a private class last week with Tone It Up's Katrina Scott and Karena Dawn, we were even more inspired to keep our momentum going through the rest of the year. The great thing about the Tone It Up girls' workouts is they're short, require minimal equipment and are totally doable regardless of your fitness level.

The inspiring young ladies, who just launched their annual Love Your Body challenge, understand that long, intensive workouts and grueling meal plans aren't the way to go. In fact, they even shared some secrets with Sweety High below. Keep reading for the lazy girl's guide to staying fit all year long:

Sweety High: What's the one at-home fitness tool even lazy girls can get good use out of?

Katrina Scott: Every girl needs a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day—whether you're doing a high-intensity workout, going for a walk, or just at the office or running errands. Staying hydrated will boost your metabolism, energize you, make your skin glow, and improve your performance during workouts. We recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces of water per day, so always keep your water bottle by your side. We like to add a squeeze of lemon or lime or some berries to our water, too!

SH: What's your advice for lazy girls who want to start working out more?

Karena Dawn: Grab a girlfriend to be your accountability partner. On days when we don't feel like working out, we always turn to each other and encourage each other. Book a class together at a local studio or in the Studio Tone It Up app (you can take fitness video classes in your living room so it's extra convenient). If you make a workout date with a girlfriend, you're more likely to show up and get the sweat sesh in.

SH: What's the best 20-minute, at-home workout?

KS: You will work up a serious sweat in 20 minutes. All of the video-guided workout classes on the Studio Tone It Up app are designed to be done in your living room and are 20-30 minutes long. One of our favorite routines is the Super Sculpt Moves, and you can find it in the app's On Demand section. This total-body class uses dumbbells and is programmed to deliver a fast and effective routine featuring all of our favorite exercises including deadlifts, curtsy lunges, and rows with tricep kickbacks.

SH: What's the most underrated workout?

KD: Booty Bands are the best sculpting tool. These little bands are easy to travel with and will have your feeling the burn so good in your hips, booty, and thighs. Using these bands are amazing because they add resistance to exercises and help keep proper form, too. We use the Booty Bands in so many of the Tone It Up app workouts and they are our fave way for making that booty pop.
