How to Shake Up Your Style in 2017

Okay, we know it's cliche, but there's no better time than the new year to switch things up.

A new year ushers in a clean slate and a fresh perspective, making it the ideal time to update your personal style, your beauty regime or your workout routine.

Whether it's something small, like adopting a new signature lip color, or big, like undergoing a total style makeover, we've got some innovative ideas on how to shake things up in the style department in 2017!

Channel a Decade

Fashion tends to look to the past to inspire the future. The '90s took over 2016, so why not look to another decade for inspiration next year? Do your research by scouring Pinterest for inspiration, and then set your vibe intention. You can even go more niche and channel a singular person from a decade, like Stevie Nicks or David Bowie. Remember, there's more to a decade than meets the eye. For example, the '60s gave us Twiggy, Andy Warhol, Jackie O, and Bridget Bardot—all of which are completely different, yet undeniably '60s.

Clothing Swap With Your Friends

Want to expand your wardrobe in the new year but don't exactly have the funds to go on a shopping spree? Organize a weekly clothing swap with your friends! Have each person bring three items and leave with three items. At the end of each week, bring the items back along with more pieces to swap! You'll expand your wardrobe weekly and it will challenge you to get creative with styling.

Go for (Hair) Fringe

A new haircut breathes instant life into your locks. We're predicting that bangs will be big this year, so if you've been wanting to try them out, we suggest hopping on this trend before the clock strikes midnight.

Try a New Silhouette

Whether it's a pencil skirt, a wide leg pant or a one-shoulder top, we all have that silhouette that we're scared to wear. Try and break your own rules in 2017 by trying out a piece that you've never worn before. Chances are, you'll be happy with the result.

Adopt a New Signature Lip Color

There's something about a signature lip color that feels polished and personal. Gwen Stefani, Marilyn Monroe and Taylor Swift are all synonymous with their iconic red lips, so why not create your own unique look? Red might be a little intense for everyday, so we suggest dabbling in pretty peaches and nudes that are long lasting and easy to re-apply.

Wear or Purge

It's easy to accumulate clothing, and we'll admit we're guilty of holding onto pieces for way too long. This year, make a pact to either wear it or purge it. Have a top you've been hanging onto forever? Force yourself to wear it; and if it doesn't make you happy, toss it. It's simple as that! You'll be left with a closet full of items your really love and want to wear.

Start Shopping Vintage

We get giddy going back to school after winter break, mainly because of our new outfits we get to flaunt in class. But, no one wants to show up wearing the same exact Zara top as your lab partner, so we suggest shopping vintage! You'll start building a collection of one-of-a-kind items that no one else will have.

Go Monochromatic

Wearing one color from head-to-toe is instantly chic, and is a great way to create new outfit combos in  your wardrobe!

Try a New Head Accessory
