Summer Fridays’ Newest R+R Rose Mask Will Have You Smelling Like a Bouquet

We're suckers for basically any sort of masking here at Sweety High, but throw in gorgeous dusty pink packaging and an overwhelmingly delicious rose scent and you have us tickled with self care delight.

Is there anything better than slathering your skin with the aroma of two dozen long stem roses? We think not, and that's just what Summer Fridays newest R+R mask delivers, plus a delightful mix of hydrating carrier oils, vitamin C, finely ground wild rose powder and sucrose that gently exfoliates the complexion.

On the Summer Fridays website, they call their new offering a, "2-in-1 mask that lovingly buffs skin brighter before hugging it in a plush mix of restorative natural oils. We call it romancing the glow." And we couldn't agree more.

Having tried the Summer Fridays inaugural product last year—the ubiquitous blue Jet Lag mask—I was eager to play with the brand's newest offering. As someone who swears almost solely by oils, this Summer Fridays mask spoke to me the most of the three products they've released to date because it's a mask plus face oil (even though many masks use oil ingredients.) Like many, I have a soft spot for all things rose, but at times, rose essential oil can irritate sensitive skin so I was anxious to see how the R+R mask stacked up for sensitive complexions like mine. In fact, most sensitive skin types are suggested to steer clear of essential oils in skincare products because they are known irritants (note: the higher up on the ingredient list, the more likely you'll have a reaction.)

My first thought when playing with the product was that the texture is really interesting, almost a clear jelly with petal-like granulars suspended throughout, quite beautiful really. Although rough to the touch, the exfoliating rose powder and sucrose bits are quite gentle on the skin and provide the perfect amount of exfoliation. I followed the directions and rubbed the product into my skin for just shy of 60 seconds and then let it soak in for 10 minutes.

Per usual, I left the mask on longer than instructed (am I the only one who consistently does this?) but after about 15 (er, 20) minutes or so I washed the mask off. I'm happy to report that I didn't have any sensitivities whatsoever to the rose essential oil either. It was getting late and I was in robot mode and forgot to follow the directions, which instructs users to wipe off with a damp cloth and pat the remaining oils in the skin. I should have followed the instructions because the consistency of the product does not fare that well when you try and wash if off with water because the gelatinous texture of the product almost creates an oily shield, making the product hard to get off with water and hands alone. I realized this mid-splash and grabbed a towel to gently remove the rest.

While I don't love the idea of getting my towels gunked up with leftover mask on the regular, I did love the R+R mask results: My skin was hydrated and glowing. I managed to massage the remaining oils into my skin and followed with my regular nightly face oil for a gorgeous glowing complexion. Overall, I truly adore this product and will definitely be using again! I would definitely use it before a night out with your friends when you want your skin to look extra fresh.
