What Exactly Are Decans?
Chances are that you already know about the zodiac's 12 sun signs, but did you know that each sign can be further divided into three? Each of these three sections is its own decan. If you picture the whole zodiac as a 360° circle, each sign takes up a 30° chunk, and the three 10° slices within that chunk are each their own decan.
According to astrology, each and every person has numerous planetary influences beyond their sun sign, from their moon and rising signs to all of the other planets, and your specific decan can be just one factor in why you don't necessarily feel like a classic Taurus, even if you are one. Tauruses born during the first decan, from April 20 to April 29, are considered to have the "purest," or simply best-recognized, Taurus traits due to the influence of sensual and passionate Venus. They're known for their loyalty, hard work and dedication, caring deeply about their pursuits, overcoming all obstacles and seeing things through from start to finish. They tend to have a wide range of interests and take deep pleasure in enjoying the finer things in life. You'll rarely see this Taurus refuse to spoil themself, as well as the ones they love. Taurus Decan II (Virgo) – April 30 to May 10
The second Taurus decan falls from April 30 to May 10, and those born during this time are also influenced by Mercury, shared with fellow earth sign Virgo. These Tauruses are natural-born communicators who speak with both authority and wisdom. They're practical yet perfectionistic, and can sometimes be so detail-oriented that they catch what others miss while getting so bogged down with minutiae that they can struggle to see the big picture. They often prefer to work behind the scenes, because when working with others, they can sometimes be quite harsh and critical, micro-managing a situation in order to be in control. Taurus Decan III (Capricorn) – May 11 to May 20
Taurus's final decan lasts from May 11 to May 20, influenced by Taurus's native Venus as well as Capricorn's planetary ruler, Saturn. If you think most Tauruses are stubborn, wait until you meet a third-decan Taurus. Saturn makes them extremely rigid, stuck on traditions and the way things "should" be done, making them even less flexible than their neighbors. They truly believe they know better than anyone else (and they're often right). At the same time, they may also be the most ambitious and hard-working Tauruses, though they often seek recognition and applause for those efforts. Of course, all of it is in service of creating stability and security, not just for themselves, but also for those around them, which is something to be admired.
