Taylor Felt on the Toxic Relationship That Inspired Single ‘Days Like This’

If you've ever felt trapped in a toxic relationship, Taylor Felt's anthemic new single "Days Like This" will feel like a breath of fresh air.

The 22-year-old TikTok superstar and singer-songwriter is gearing up to release an EP in the spring, and "Days Like This" is the perfect example of the raw authenticity and emotion we'll be seeing from it. The vibrant pop track is all about wishing you were single instead of trapped in a bad relationship, and the power of finding your own independence. Taylor was kind enough to speak with us all about the true story that inspired it and share her thoughts on what's coming up next.

The Story Behind 'Days Like This'

Taylor Felt: I wrote "Days Like This" while I was in a toxic relationship that made me wish I was single. While I was waking up to the fact that the relationship was becoming unhealthy, I wrote pages and pages in my journal, brain-dumping how I was feeling to cope. I was envious of how much fun my friends were having being "single" and I realized I would actually be happier if I was out of this relationship. So I then took the words straight out of my journal and wrote "Days Like This" in my bedroom.

What 'Days Like This' Means

TF: Writing this song was so therapeutic because it perfectly depicted the way I was feeling in the moment. I felt trapped in something that was no longer good for me and had an extreme longing for freedom. I hope it inspires others to embrace their independence and know that a partner isn't a necessity but rather an addition to your already whole self.

Taylor's Favorite Lyric

TF: My current favorite lyric (because it always changes) from "Days Like This" is "Why do I apologize when I know I'm right?" This one perfectly described how I used to be an avid people pleaser and would sacrifice myself to make someone else feel better. Now after lots of inner work and growth, I live every day actively trying to honor my authenticity and no longer alter myself to please others.

On the Music Video

TF: The concept for the video was to showcase what my life would be like if I was "single" in New York with my best friends! I had the time of my life with all my favorite people taking over the city, but one of the best moments was when I was fearlessly running and singing on the subway during people's morning commute. Such a freeing feeling.

On TikTok Success

TF: It means the absolute world to me that I garnered such a beautiful audience based off of my talent and voice! I still can't quite comprehend the amount of people that follow me, but I truly can't wait to tour and meet them in person!

Final Thoughts

TF: Being super transparent and honest in "Days Like This" was scary, but if I heard this song while I was in my toxic relationship, I would've felt so seen. I hope this song reaches the ears who need to hear the message of choosing yourself and leaving situations that are no longer for you.
