These Super Cute Beanies Double As Bluetooth Headphones
We're always on the lookout for new and innovative takes on Bluetooth headphones, so when we discovered Tenergy beanies, they definitely caught our attention.
We reached out to Tenergy, who kindly obliged to send us a few of the beanies to test out ourselves, and they didn't disappoint.
At first glance, you'd never guess they were anything more than beanies. The outer material is soft and high-quality, and they all have warm, fleecy linings. They also come in dozens of styles and colors, from fluffy cable knits to basic knits, as well as designs with tassels, pom-poms and brims. They also have headbands, if you prefer simpler styles.
The Bluetooth speaker controls for these are subtly integrated into the beanie behind the faux leather logo patch. Here you'll find the up-and-down buttons for the volume and track selection, as well as the play and pause button that doubles as the Bluetooth sync button. Just hold down for a few seconds and it will go into pairing mode, making it easy to select on any nearby Bluetooth devices. There's also a small hole so you can see the light indicators inside the beanie.
The speakers inside the beanie also sound great, whether you want some very subtle sounds at the lowest volume or you want to rock out at the loudest. You may be a bit disappointed if you want to use these to drown out all outside sounds, as they're not the loudest headphones out there, but we see the fact it won't blast out your eardrums as a positive. They get loud enough to listen to your music at a respectable volume.
And they can be pretty handy even when you're not listening to music. You can sync it to your phone so that when you get texts, notifications or phone calls, only you can hear them. You can be present and not look at your phone all the time when you're hanging out with your friends and family, even if you're waiting on a text from a special someone.
The electronics inside the beanies are totally removable, which is useful for a number of beanies. First, taking out the speaker bits allows you to wash the beanie when it gets dirty. Secondly, it charges via micro USB, so you'll need to access the charging port build onto one of the little speakers.
They're also pretty affordable. Tenergy is selling the basic knit style on Amazon for $20 to $25 each, so they won't break the bank. Other beanies (without the speakers) retail for about the same or more, so we think it's a pretty good deal.
If we have to make one complaint about Tenergy beanies, it's that the removability of the electronics makes their placement inconsistent. When you reinsert them, you have to make sure that the speaker heads are facing the right way (toward your ears) and that the buttons and flashing light behind the leather patch are placed properly. It's not a huge problem, but when it moves around too much, it's possible to push the wrong buttons when you're trying to operate it.
