5 Animated Disney Films That Deserve a Sequel

Last week, Moana finally received its deserved sequel after nearly a decade. That had us thinking—so many other Disney (and Pixar) films still need more content. After all, Toy Story is gearing up for its fifth installment, and Cinderella received three.

Below, discover five movies from Disney that somehow haven't received and totally should have a sequel.

Tangled

Tangled might be the most famously neglected Disney movie of all time. Rapunzel is one of the Princesses, yet she only has a short and canceled television series. She has virtually zero presence in the American Disney parks (except for the Tangled-themed bathrooms). She's also one of the few princesses who hasn't received news about a live-action adaptation.

It's unbelievable that she's been around for over 10 years and is loved by many Disney fans, including some of us at Sweety High, whose favorite animated film is Tangled.

Rapunzel, by far, has the most relatable personality with her adorable awkwardness. Eugene Fitzpatrick (aka Flynn Rider) rivals Prince Naveen and Li Shang as the most charming princes, and the music from the movie is phenomenally catchy.

Disney, why, why, why?

Princess and the Frog

Like Tangled, Princess and the Frog is one of those films we don't see represented too often, though we can't comprehend why. Tiana, at least, has been receiving more visibility in Disney's content. For example, they just replaced Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World and Disneyland with Tiana's Bayou Adventure (which is a top-tier attraction, by the way). You'll also see a handful of Tiana restaurants.

In a few years, we'll finally receive a mini-series called Tiana, but we haven't heard any news about a release date yet. That said, we'd still like to see our green queen return to the silver screen in a full-length sequel.

Encanto

We'd like to cut Encanto some slack because it has been out for less than five years. The movie had our favorite Disney tracks in ages, thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda's genius. Plus, the family-centered storyline was so heartfelt and a much-needed break from Disney's usual themes of romance.

Surprisingly, we haven't seen more of Encanto at Disney, and we hardly find any collaborations featuring Mirabel and the rest of her family. But hey—at least we have confirmation of an Encanto ride arriving at Animal Kingdom in a few years.

Big Hero 6

These days, Big Hero 6 feels more like a cult classic film. We know many usual Disney enthusiasts who haven't touched this movie. It's easily the best Disney movie with a futuristic setting, and there is at least one character everyone can enjoy, whether the bright Honey Lemon or the edgy Go Go. Oh, and we can't forget Baymax, who might be the cutest character out to come of 2010s Disney.

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland has been out for more than 70 years now. Yet, it's one of the few classics that hasn't received a Disney sequel. It's surprising, considering we have multiple installments of Bambi, Beauty and the Beast, and even 101 Dalmatians—yet nothing for Alice in Wonderland.

Regardless, we'll always appreciate this iconic movie for its whimsical aesthetic, and no character will ever be more fun than the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. Besides, we've got an amazing live-action adaptation to tide us over.
