5 Things to Do at the Airport While You’re Waiting for Your Flight

We all know how stressful traveling can be. As a result, we often get to the airport more than three hours in advance. It's helpful for our anxiety, but it can be boring if you don't know what to do with your time.

Thankfully, we've become more educated about what airports have to offer. Below, check out the best ideas we found so you can start your trip off right.

Check Out the Nearby Stores

At every airport, we see an assortment of stores. Depending on where you fly, you might even be lucky to discover the luxury brands you can't find in your local mall. We don't often purchase anything but still find it enjoyable to window shop. Plus, we've always wondered what it was like to go inside those stores.

Enjoy the Restaurants

Most of the time we've traveled, it's seemed too hectic to sit at the restaurants, but when you get there early, it's relaxing to people-watch while enjoying a meal. Besides, we all know the food they serve on the plane won't be as tasty.

Get in Your Daily Steps

These days, we like to get in at least 10,000 steps per day, but when we know we'll be spending hours on a plane, it can seem impossible. However, if you arrive early, you're practically in the best place for walking—the airport. There is so much surface area to cover and sights to see.

Find the Therapy Animals

Most people don't know that over 30 airports in the United States have an animal therapy program. After all, traveling is probably in the top three most stressful experiences. Whether you can't handle the chaotic nature of TSA or are about to head somewhere you dread, a dog, cat or pig is there to help soothe the moment.

Read a Book

We have one foolproof way to make time fly: immersing ourselves in a good book. As you sit at your gate, go ahead and crack open a novel before you get onto the plane.  You'll have the comfort of knowing you did something "productive" for your brain before being extremely lazy on vacation.
