5 Alternatives to In-N-Out If You Don’t Live on the West Coast
If you live on the West Coast, you are lucky enough to know the heaven that is In-N-Out Burger. It's one of the few fast food burger joints that has high-quality meat that isn't dripping in grease. Plus, that mysterious burger spread they use is out of this world.
If you never had the pleasure of consuming one, it sounds delicious, right? Sadly, the iconic California-based hasn't expanded past Colorado. Don't be too sad, though. Below, we've compiled a list of restaurants around the nation that have burgers that measure up to In-N-Out.
Culver's
Culver's is a Midwest classic. Every location cooks each meal to order. That means you'll have fresh, crispy ingredients and a piping hot lunch or dinner, similar to In-N-Out. Sadly, the only thing missing is those caramelized onions and 1000 Island-esque sauce. Hey, maybe you can get creative at home by making a copycat version of the spread.
Fatburger
Fatburger is another staple in California. However, this restaurant has many more locations than In-N-Out, reaching Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. You'll find many similar items, like those classic diced onion and loaded French fries.

Five Guys
Five Guys has gone global. We've seen these beyond American soil—did you know they also exist in Australia, South Korea, Switzerland and more? More than likely, you've probably had this burger already, and everyone can agree that they have some of the most flavorful fast food on the market. It's another spot where your food is made fresh after you order it!
Shake Shack
Despite having multiple locations in California, Shake Shack truly feels like the In-N-Out of the East Coast. The brand began in New York City with similarly smaller burgers and their own special sauce (Shake Sauce). Honestly, if you ask us, we might go as far as saying they're even better than In-N-Out. Those crinkle-cut fries and smash patties are irresistible.
Smashburger
It's hard to believe that Smashburger isn't more popular. They were one of the first to use the smash patty technique, and they also have an endless amount of customizations, from bacon to eggs and avocado. Oh, and if you want more than red meat, they also serve wings, salads and more, making them one of the most versatile spots on our list.
