7 Black-Owned Skincare Products to Enjoy This National Black Business Month and Beyond
Black brands have, unfortunately, been excluded from skincare conversations for years. As a Black skincare lover myself, I've set out to find products that would be great for my skin and serve as minority representation in the industry.
Over the past year, I've completely shifted from chronic acne to a nearly blemish-free face, and there is no way I would have achieved it without the help of a few fantastic Black-owned brands. In light of National Black Business Month, discover some of the brands that have revamped my skincare regime and seriously changed my life for the better.
Disney's The Little Mermaid & Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30: $18.99
Halle Bailey as The Little Mermaid has become a monumental moment in cultural history, and it would only make sense for Princess Ariel to collaborate with Black Girl Sunscreen to help you protect your skin on land and water.
Black Girl Sunscreen was founded with melanated skin in mind, and it has been one of the only sunscreens that hasn't made my skin break out and has a texture that feels comfortable on my skin. It's also extremely moisturizing, thanks to its super-ingredients: jojoba, cacao and avocado.

FENTY SKIN Plush Puddin' Intensive Recovery Lip Mask: $22
As a longtime member of the Rihanna Navy, everything this pop culture icon does will receive my support. Fenty Beauty stole my heart and restructured how I view celebrity brands, and Fenty Skin is doing the exact same.
I love all of the products from the skincare brand, so it was hard to pick just one, but one of my favorites has to be this Plush Puddin' Intensive Recovery Lip Mask. It really is a lifesaver for my cracked lips (especially during less humid days), and like most of her products, it has the most beautiful fragrance.
Bolden Brightening Glycolic Acid Toner: $22.50
Toner is the most underrated step in skincare routines. Adding one to your regimen can help balance your pH balance, give that extra boost of hydration and, most importantly, remove any gunk that your cleanser alone couldn't get out.
In the past, I've turned my back on toner because I was using ones that were too harsh on my skin. However, I wish I knew about the Bolden Brightening Glycolic Acid Toner instead because it's pumped with hydrating ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid.
Hyper Skin Hyper Even Gentle Brightening Cleansing Gel: $28
I haven't found many Black-owned face washes, so I can't begin to explain my excitement when I found this one from Hyper Skin. Thankfully, it's also a really great face wash. This cleansing gel helps regulate oil production, reduce breakouts, unclog pores and brighten skin. No wonder it has a nearly perfect five-star rating!
Topicals Faded Serum: $38
Topicals, in general, is one of the best skincare brands on the market, but I might go as far as saying the Faded Serum is the best skincare product to exist.
If you've ever had acne scars and blemishes that refuse to go away, we urge you to try this item. And besides giving you a more even tone, it won't dry your skin out, either. It's probably the second best thing to prescription products—honestly, it's magic in a bottle.

OUI The People Cheat Sheet Resurfacing Body Serum: $45
Most conversations about skincare only revolve around your face, but I will not let you neglect the rest of your body. I've dealt with bouts of body acne and hyperpigmentation at multiple points, so I deeply understand the attention that the rest of your skin needs. Incorporating a serum—like this one from OUI the People, which is infused with all the best AHA, BHA and PHAs you can imagine—can transform your skin to be even, bright and soft.
Shani Darden Skin Care Weightless Oil-Free Moisturizer: $48
If you prefer luxurious brands, you must try Shani Darden Skin Care. Shani is "considered the secret behind Hollywood's most flawless faces," with high-profile clients like Jessica Alba and Shay Mitchell. Both of those women do, in fact, have flawless skin, so you know they're using top-of-the-line products. One product I love from Shani's brand is her oil-free moisturizer, which is perfect for those of us who struggle with an oily T-zone. This product is also cruelty, paraben and fragrance-free, vegan, non-comedogenic and "made for moms."
