6 Dry Shampoos That Work on Textured Hair
As a Black girl, I'm used to hearing every myth under the sun about our hair care. For example, I always heard that dry shampoo would be useless on my thicker, coarser hair. Over the years, my hair has become more oily (especially as I wear more straight styles), but doing a quick wash feels like overkill. Lo and behold, I tried dry shampoo to push back my wash day and I fell in love with it.
Dry shampoo has been a miracle worker for absorbing the oil without drying my hair. Plus, if you purchase one for dark hair, you won't get that annoying white cast many have.
Give it a chance, and you won't be disappointed—below, discover the best ones I've used that are actually effective for textured hair.
Batiste Dark Brown Dry Shampoo: $13.29
Batiste is probably everyone's first dry shampoo. It's affordable and accessible, located at Target, Ulta Beauty and more. They also have a variety of shades and hues to fit your hair needs. The dark brown shade seamlessly blends even into my dyed black hair and it has a delicious scent of vanilla, white peach and mandarin.
Verb Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair: $20
Verb's Ghost Oil has been a favorite of mine for years, so you can only imagine my excitement when I discovered their dry shampoo for dark tones. This item effectively absorbs oil and odor within a few sprays. Thanks to vitamin-rich pomegranate and bilberry extract, you'll also receive healthy rejuvenation.

Klorane Dry Shampoo With Nettle Natural Tint: $24
When my dry, flaky scalp was at its worst, Klorane saved the day. Their products often have innovative and high-impact ingredients, like the nettle extract in this dry shampoo. It's lightweight because of its ultra-fine powder but has the power to instantly add volume to your hair.
Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal and Biotin Dry Shampoo: $25
The owner of Briogeo, Nancy Twine, has hair identical to mine, so I knew I could trust their Scalp Revival dry shampoo. It has a detoxifying blend of binchotan charcoal and biotin (which also promotes hair growth) alongside witch hazel to normalize oil production. It also has nature-friendly packaging!
Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo Dark Tones: $26
When it comes to shampoo and condition, I default to Moroccanoil. Its main ingredient (argan oil) is one of the best for hydration. That said, the dry shampoo is one of the few that actively feels like it's retaining moisture while also extracting the sebum from my scalp. Plus, it's one of the best-smelling dry shampoos, too.
K18 AirWash Dry Shampoo: $48
K18's AirWash was one of my most anticipated hair releases of 2024, and it did not disappoint. The brand created a brand-new odorBIND technology that slowly reduces oil across three days. It also has a non-aerosol format, which means it's better for the environment and will eliminate that subtly suffocating chemical scent you'll often find with cans.
