6 Best Self Tanners for Deeper Skin

As someone with tan skin, I never knew self-tanning was an option for my shade. That was until I saw Jackie Aina's video on it almost six years ago—and it completely transformed my perspective.

Like Jackie, I had uneven, dull skin through winter into early summer. As she revealed in her experiment, self-tanning is one quick way to resolve the "problem." It brightens your skin and tones it in the right areas, giving you a glowy sheen (rather than only deepening your color).

Now, I swear by it. If you've never tried it, I urge you to take a chance on it this summer. Below, discover a few of the best for anyone with brown skin that also might change your life.

Jergens Natural Melanin Glow Illuminating Moisturizer: $8.99

If you can't tell by its name, Jergens' Melanin Glow was formulated for darker skin. Rather than switching your skin tone, this cream uses bronze luminizers to "highlight the beautiful spectrum" of shades on your skin. While you're increasing your glow, they also offer hydration with cocoa and shea butter.

Bondi Sands Salon Quality Self Tanning Foam: $26

When you see someone with your skin tone in the images, you'll know that you're in safe hands. Bondi Sands does just that, and they did not disappoint. This foam seamlessly glides across your skin for an evened, bronze glow. It also has one of the best scenes on this list, enriched with aloe vera and coconut.

Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Mousse: $32

And here we have it, another self-tanning product that uses inclusive photos. While offering a flawless tan, Isle of Paradise's Self-Tanning Mouse also feels like a hydrating mask, thanks to its grapefruit and avocado oil blend. I'm giving it extra points for its summery scent, too.

Coco & Eve Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam: $38

It's rare to find a tanning product with close to five stars, but Coco & Eve has done and deserved it. It does everything a self-tanner claims—blurs hyperpigmentation and develops quickly—and takes it to the next level with its Cellushape firming ingredients. No icky chemical scent here, either. You'll be blessed with notes of tropical mango and guava.

St. Tropez Self Tan Extra Dark Bronzing Mousse: $45

St. Tropez is arguably the most popular self-tanner, and I understand why. It's one of the most conventional and powerful on the market, as one of the few brands that will actually give you a noticeable difference in your shade, depending on how long you use it. Even so, it does look like a natural sun-kissed tan.

Lux Unfiltered Original Supernatural Tanning Mousse: $48

Lux Unfiltered is a hidden gem. It has the steepest price point, but it feels like a luxury experience. It's got one of the smoothest consistencies, courtesy of its sunflower, jojoba seed and papaya extract and hyaluronic acid. Meanwhile, that blood orange fragrance smells like the finest bottle of perfume on your armoire. And yes, that glow will last you days!
