The Best Behind-the-Scenes Moments From the Live-Action The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid premiered on May 26, and we've already seen it more than once and watched every interview from the cast's press tour.

This cast has one of the greatest bonds we've ever seen in film history, so the behind-the-scenes content is definitely feeding us. If you haven't seen the Disney live-action adaptation in theaters yet, run to the theaters. In the meantime, check out some of our favorite behind-the-scenes moments from the film.

Melissa McCarthy's Transformation Into Ursula

Whenever we watch a film, hair and makeup are always something we think about, especially for something as magical as The Little Mermaid. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the entire cast's transformations into their characters, but we did have the chance to see how Ursula came to be. Watch the video below to see Melissa become the sea witch!

Awkwafina's Hilarious Ad-Libbing

In every role, Awkwafina has everyone bursting with laughter, so it makes sense that she would be an amazing choice as the voice of Scuttle. Though Scuttle was supposed to be the most annoying character from The Little Mermaid, Awkwafina charmed her way into also making Scuttle extremely lovable—mainly due to her silly improvisation. Peek into her process with the video below.

The Intense CGI Used During Production

When you enter the theaters, it's hard to imagine that The Little Mermaid wasn't actually filmed on the sea. Thanks to modern CGI (and behind-the-scenes content), we were able to see how The Little Mermaid became so realistic, and it's shocking to see how everything looked before editing.

@axelmalibu Behind the scenes of 'The Little Mermaid' 🧜🏽‍♀️ What do I have to do to get some B-roll footage of this film? Based on the this little footage so far, it confirms Halle had her hair and everything from her bust down CGI, but more interestingly it was cool to see actual people maneuvering Ursula's tentacles! The film officially drops Friday, but it's so surreal that I'm seeing it tonight! ________ #thelittlemermaid #littlemermaid #disney #disneyprincess #ariel #hallebailey #princessariel #ursula #disneyvillains #liveaction ♬ original sound – axelmalibu

Halle Bailey's Private Concerts for Jonah Hauer-King

We'd be lying if we said Halle and Jonah's friendship wasn't our favorite thing to come out of this film. There are so many great, chemistry-filled moments from the press tour interviews, but one of our favorites has to be Jonah dishing that Halle would come to his trailer for lunch and put on mini-performances for him.

Halle's Intense Hair Flip

Can you believe that Halle's locs cost six figures to perfect? It was no surprise that her hair was stunning throughout the film, even during the iconic scene when Ariel flips her hair out of the water. Halle's locs were treated with intense care, and to make that amount of hair look graceful, it took the help of a stuntman.
