5 Easy Tips to Make Your Perfume Last Longer

Have you ever found the scent of your dreams only to be disappointed that it doesn't last longer than a couple of hours? Maybe it's because you bought a body mist—notorious for disappearing within minutes—or the quality of your eau de parfum simply didn't live up to your standards.

With these five easy tips, you can elongate the softest scents. Everyone around you will know you were in the room.

Remember the Pulse Points

There's a reason people always tell you to apply perfume to your pulse points—your wrists, the back of your knees or the ears. It's because your skin is thinner there, which also means it's warmer. If you know anything about fragrance, you're already aware that heat will allow the perfume to diffuse quicker and more strongly to give you the most intense scent.

Shower First

The best time to spray your perfume is after your shower. Throughout the day, your skin will touch sweat, dust and more—not to mention the dead skin cells you're shedding, too. Clean, hot skin is like a blank canvas. Your pores will open up to absorb and radiate the scent.

Match Your Perfume to Your Lotion

Moisturizing is important for perfume. That hydrating base gives the droplets something to cling onto. Sure, you can use unscented or another fragrance to create that layer, but you can also apply a matching lotion to add the extra punch. Brands know this, too—that's why they often include a set of lotions, oils and more to encourage you to combine them for the most powerful effect.

Try a Higher Concentrations

If the other steps are too much work (or you want to do more to help your perfume stay), try to find a bottle with a high concentration. Body sprays, like the ones at Bath & Body Works or Victoria's Secret, fade because they have been diluted. Eau de parfum will also have a higher concentration than eau de toilette.

Buy a Perfume Refrigerator

Keeping perfume in a hot or humid area can also diffuse it. Thankfully, brands have begun to sell refrigerators for your fragrance. You can buy this adorable pink one at Walmart for $30! Otherwise, you can get the job done by storing it in a room away from sunlight.
