5 Broadway Shows We Want to See Adapted Into a Live-Action Film
After the premiere of Wicked, we're starting to believe more Broadway musicals deserve a film adaptation. Yes—performing on stage is magical in its own right—but a movie set brings it to life in a way we didn't even realize until Wicked. The characters. The settings. The immersion.
Below, discover five more shows from musical theater that we'd love to receive the same attention as Wicked.
&Juliet
We've seen so many stories of Romeo & Juliet, but &Juliet shows us that our heroine can move on fine without Romeo. That same empowerment would speak volumes on the silver screen, broadening the audience beyond the boundaries of the theater. Besides, the costumes from this show are so vibrant that we can only imagine how much more beautiful they'd look with a multi million-dollar budget.
BOOP! The Musical
Technically, we already have many projects featuring Betty Boop, but the new storyline from the musical would makes it a viable choice for a film adaptation. In this play, we watch Betty weave between generations. Can you imagine flipping between modernity and monochrome, almost in the style of Across of the Spider-Verse?

Hadestown
Not all Broadway productions are digestible for the casual viewer. However, Hadestown does a fantastic job of creating a story everyone can love with equally charming music. Rather than show tunes, this play relies on the folk magic of Anaïs Mitchell. It's the kind of music that flows between scenes rather than taking you out of the story, making it perfect for film.
Hamilton
We know you can watch Hamilton on Disney+, but that doesn't compare to what a full-length film could be. Since the story of our American president does rely on some warfare, we predict it would look even better with the right special effects, and those multi-scene numbers would look even more impressive!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
As we all know, Harry Potter is about to return to HBO Max. While we will still tune into the reboot, we would have enjoyed seeing a new take on the franchise with a new series. With the popularity of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, there was perfect material for adapting. Considering how great the effects are on stage, we know it would only be better in movie format.
