These Are the 5 Most Anticipated Book-to-Film and TV Adaptations to Expect in 2025

There's something about a book-to-film (and TV) adaptation that makes us much more excited than the standard movie. It's probably because we already have an intense attachment to the characters. Or, the storytelling devices are often much stronger than the traditional screenplay.

This year is slated to be a fantastic one for book lovers. We'll finally seen stories from authors like Emily Henry and Freida McFadden on the silver screen. Meanwhile, we also have the revival of some old series from Judy Blume and Helen Fielding.

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

It's been a while since a mystery book has taken over the general public like Freida McFadden's The Housemaid. This book had us on the edge of our seats the entirety of the read, and we're certain it'll have the same effect in film format. With a cast consisting of Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, we have no doubt this will be a great production, hitting theaters this Christmas.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

It Ends With Us aside, Verity is the highest rated book in Colleen Hoover's catalog. And it's not her usual romance—it's a thriller. The husband of injured author Verity Crawford discovers her dark truths after diving into her secret files, jeopardizing the relationship's future. Anne Hathaway starts in the titular role, while Dakota Johnson will play the struggling author, Lowen Ashleigh, who helps Verity's husband uncover the dark secrets. Here's to hoping they start filming soon!

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

Emily Henry might be one of the best romance authors since the pre-BookTok era. And People We Meet on Vacation is our favorite of her books. We're hoping this friends-to-lovers story will revive the '00s rom-com vibe we know and love.  It won't be hard to enjoy with charming leads Tom Blyth (who played President Snow in the last Hunger Games installment) and Emily Bader (My Lady Jane). The cast recently finished filming, so we're expecting a release this summer or in the fall.

Forever… by Judy Blume

We've had a couple of adaptations of this novel, but nothing as big as Netflix's television series, arriving later this year. In 1978, this groundbreaking book told the epic coming-of-age saga of two childhood lovers. Newcomers Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. will play the iconic teens. The show has finished filming and recently dropped it's trailer—looks like it's just on the horizon.

Mad About the Boy by Helen Fielding

After two decades, the Bridget Jones franchise, starring Reneé Zellweger, comes to a close. In the film series, we end with Mad About the Boy (rather than Bridget Jones's Baby). Prepare your tissues because this will tug at your heart strings as Bridget steps into life as a widow. It's available to watch now on Peacock!
