Starting a fitness journey can feel extremely overwhelming. What types of workouts should you do? What will be the most effective for your body? Honestly, it's an experiment of trial and error, but, as always, we're here to help you.

Below, we've gathered a short list of our favorite types of workouts. Discover the five most essential exercise classes everyone should take to learn more about their gym taste.

HIIT

These days, many gym rats swear by HIIT, also known as high-intensity interval training. It's regarded as one of the most effective forms of exercise. However, it's one of those types that you probably need additional guidance. Without proper technique, it quickly loses its effectiveness.

Pilates

Ever since Lori Harvey told the world how pilates transformed her body, we have been attending weekly classes—and yes, it did change our lives. Pilates reinforces your balance with precise movements, and it helps tone your body, arguably more effectively than any other exercise.

Spin/Cycling

Does anyone remember that era in 2019 when Emma Chamberlain was constantly in a spin class? She singlehandedly inspired us to take one ourselves. Surprisingly, it takes a different level of strength. You might be winded after the first few minutes, but your body will acclimate. You can even sign up for fun themed classes where they play music from your favorite artists.

Yoga

We could all use a moment to unwind, and yoga is the perfect way to do so! Taking a yoga class in the evening has been one of the quickest methods to reset our brains. Like Pilates, it also does a deceivingly good job of improving your balance with sharp and sleek movements.

Zumba

Zumba has, by far, been one of the strangest exercise classes we've taken. However, they're also exciting. You're thrown into a dance class, but there is almost zero instruction. You pick it up as you go, also working out your mind. It's one of those exercises you wouldn't expect to have you out of breath, but these full-body movements will quickly tone you from head to toe.
