5 Feel-Good Disney Shorts to Instantly Improve Your Mood

We all know those iconic Disney movies—from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Moana to Hocus Pocus and The Princess Diaries. But beyond the feature films, did you know that the studios also have a stack of great shorts?

To introduce you to the world of Disney short films, we found our top five favorite ones. Discover them below.

Bao

If you want something that will tug at your heartstrings, Bao will—and in the best way possible. After a bao bun comes to life while a Chinese woman is cooking dinner, she chooses to raise it. The "son" gets old and becomes more independent, causing the mother to grow more anxious. And instead of letting him grow, she eats him to protect him.

It's a metaphor for empty nest syndrome, as revealed in the closing scene. Spoiler alert: it turns out okay in the end.

Lava

In this Disney short, an isolated volcano spends his day alone, singing to the ocean and praying for a mate. As he grows more lonely, he begins to sink deeper into the water, but little does he know that a sweet partner is waiting for him under the surface. Right in the knick of time, the pair meet and save our first fiery friend from extinction.

Once Upon a Studio

Disney's most recent offering: Once Upon a Studio. This newly beloved short reunites many of your favorite voice actors, including Elsa (Idina Menzel), Auli'i Cravalho (Moana), Lea Salonga (Mulan) and many more as their respective characters meet for Mickey Mouse's birthday celebration. Try to spot all your favorite characters.

Tangled Ever After

At this point, it doesn't seem like we will ever get a Tangled sequel. However, Disney fed us a few crumbs when they released Tangled Ever After in 2012. In this comedic follow-up, we watch Rapunzel and Eugene's wedding come to life. As always, a few obstacles might arrive—and Maximus and Pascal must save the day this time.

Us Again

And if you need one last stab to the heart, Us Again will make you feel bittersweet nostalgia. This love story follows Art, a crotchety, elderly man who stays inside, and his wife, Dot. When the duo gets into an argument, Dot runs into the rain, only to realize she's become youthful in the rain. The two begin to relive their lively, younger days as Art slowly starts to grow younger through dance, too, reminding them why they fell in love again in the first place.
